The Weekend Quarterly Series continues!

The purpose of the Weekend Quarterly is to:

  • Allow for members to meet and greet fellow members of our meetup group
  • Provide an opportunity for those who cannot make the Wednesday monthly meetups to share their latest work and ideas
  • Have an informal gathering place to relax, socialize, and talk about anything and everything photographic

Unlike the Wednesday monthly meetings, there will not be a regular location for the Weekend Quarterly. Instead, we will choose locations around town that are willing to host us. This first quarterly of 2009 will be at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts in Georgetown, co-sponsored/co-organized by the CDIA itself.

Optional things to bring:

  • Your camera if you want to practice shooting around or ask questions about it.
  • A few recent prints if you want to share with others.
  • Your laptop if you have photos on your computer you want to share.
  • Photography questions you might have for other members.
  • Ideas and suggestions for future events.

If you aren't aware of it already, please read our About Us page for our three strikes RSVP / no-show policy.

Agenda

  • Kickoff at 2:30pm
  • Overview of CDIA Programs (Bill Chenaille, CDIA Director of Outreach)
  • Off-Camera Lighting Workshop (Paul, CDIA Instructor)
  • Free form with members: sharing photos, talking photography, meet and greet, etc.

The free form portion of the event is what you want to make out of it. For example, if you make the effort to engage other member-photographers by asking questions and/or sharing your own perspective or approach, you'll probably pick up some tips and maybe notice something about your own photos in the process.

Public Transportation, Driving Directions, Parking
A link to info about public transportation, driving directions, and parking:
http://www.cdiabu.com... (scroll down to the bottom for the DC/Georgetown campus).

For any drivers: there are pay parking garages nearby on both 30th St. and Thomas Jefferson Ave, between M and K Sts. -- can't remember how much they cost exactly, but expect around $15-20. (The garage on 30th St is connected to the CDIA/Foundry Building by elevator.) I think there's a less expensive surface lot further down on K St, closer to the boat house underneath the Key Bridge.

Very informative & I hope to implement the tips soon! Good to see quality work produced in such a short time. I'll def pass the CDIA's summer high school program info to a few who have teens that might be interested in attending.
    •  Very informative, looking forward to more meetups like this.
    •  A very relevant info pack session.
    •  less successful as networking event but workshop was quite informative.

Anyone want to give me $22,500? =) We enjoyed it a lot. The lighting demo was very informative.
    •  A very informative presentation from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts. I picked up a few tips during the lighting demonstration too! Patrick O'
    •  From reading the itinerary online I did not realize that the initial hour or so would be essentially a sales pitch for the design school there. While the work they described, as well as the work on display, seemed very impressive, I wonder how many of the "hobbyists" like myself are interested in pursuing a full degree? If I, and many of the others, were younger then perhaps so. But being older with a current career path, I believe many are not interested in going the degree route. With that in mind, I ended up leaving after the first hour as I had other things to accomplish.
    •  Loved the experience, would have loved to be able to chat with more members, but I guess the type of venue/event was not conducive to that.
    •  Super informative about courses of study for those who want to take their photography to the next level. Interesting strobe workshop. I'd like a hand-on strobe workshop. Glad to pay for it.
    •  Very informative, the demonstration was great. The people from CDIA were great host and had a lot to share.
    •  The Off-Camera Lighting Workshop was great. Watching two student teams set up lighting and get great portraits within 15 minutes was inspiring!
    •  Very interesting presentations. Although I would not be an applicant to the CDIA, I have a friend who might, and I am happy to pass the information along. And the slide show about what the students do was very interesting regardless. The final exam was also neat to watch in action.
    •  This was my first Meetup I thought it was very good. Learned a lot very informative. thanks.....Frank
