Location: Arlington National Cemetery
Date: Saturday, February 7th at 9:00AM [Rain or snow. If we get snow, I would be a happy camper]
Our itinerary: Changing of the Guard ceremony and photo op of the ground.
Arlington Cemetery has always been a place where it brings you back to reality. It reminds us how fortunate we are to be able to live in the lifestyle we’re accustom to. We’re going to spend a few hours observing the Changing of the Guard and walk the grounds for photo ops. Here is a link to give you ideas of the nuances to look for other than a broad shot. Abstract and details is what I like to convey.
We’ll gather at the visitor’s center 10 minutes before 9AM, take a brisk walk around the ground and arrive at Tomb of the Unknowns 20 minutes before the hourly ceremony. Hopefully we’ll still have some nice morning light. After the ceremony, we’ll walk the grounds for photo ops.
This is not going to be who has the most equipment or the exotic lens. All equipment and skill level are invited.
What to wear: It will be cold. Please wear layers, hat and gloves.
What food to bring: Water, light finger food, a sandwich and a hot beverage in a small leak proof thermos.
Camera equipment: We will be walking the grounds so don’t plan on packing the entire arsenal. Body with a wide and telephoto. A polarize filter would be to your benefit. Tripod? If you want to schlep it. Point & shoot cameras? Always welcomed!
Directions: Metro is the best option. There is a parking lot with quite a number of spaces but if you’re not familiar with the area, you should Metro.
Please email me if you have any questions. We will promptly start at 9:00 AM. Maybe a gathering at a local coffee house or lunch afterwards to preview the fantastic images. I will see you there!
