Patuxent River Park is a beautiful and often overlooked nature park. Its a large park that begins and ends in several locations along Patuxent River, so I think it's best that we meet at a local A&W restaurant and drive to the nature center as a group. In addition to photographic opportunities along the paths and shoreline of the river, you can rent a canoe or kayak to get a different perspective. After a couple of hours at Patuxent River Park, we'll drive to Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, 2880 Grey's Rd. Prince Frederick, MD. Battle Creek is the largest stand of bald cypress forest in the region.
For those who still have energy, my plan is to finish afternoon with a detour to Chesapeake Beach for a meal on the way back to DC. Cheaspeake Beach is community on the Bay, a few miles outside the beltway. It's no Dewey Beach, just a small town with its own character, a nice little beach, and a small boardwalk. You can lay on the beach, have a swim, and eat fresh seafood within 45 minutes of DC.
