Date: Sunday, October 18th at 10:00AM *** New TIME ***
Our itinerary: Shenandoah Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival
Destation: LONG BRANCH Historic House & Farm
Staging location: Centreville Commuter Parking Lot
Please note new tentative start time. Due to the potential rain for the weekend, the staging time at Centreville Commuter lot has been move to 10AM. This is so we can gauge what the weather will be. Please update your RSVP if this will affect your attending status.
This will be the 13th annual Hot Air Baloon and Wine Festival held in Millwood, VA.
--From the 2008 Washington Post editoral:
Held at a historic farm, the 12th annual festival has all-day music, food and crafts, as well as an antique car show. Kids can see magic shows, ride a monster truck, explore a hay bale maze or go on a hayride. Picnics are welcome.
See the balloons launch on Saturday and Sunday around 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., when winds are calmest. For a balloon ride (most rides are about $250 per person), call [masked].
Camera equipment: A wide angle and a long lens. Point and shoots are always welcomed.
Directions: The Farm Commuter Lot
Don't forget to pack a snack and a few bottles of water. Please email me if you have any questions. I will see you there!
Looking forward to this. Is there a carpool/overnight stay from the previous day's event possible or being set up ?
There are questions on whether or not to do an overnight stay. Centreville Commuter parking lot is the staging area for both events. The zip is 20120. Hotels in this area is around $65 a night in a commercial hotel. I can give recommendations upon requests. http://bit.ly/NBhDd![]()
Anyone planning to take a ride in the hot air balloon?
Just back from Florida... looking forward to going out with you guys again, its been too long!
Since I live in Clarke County, I'll just meet at the Long Branch farm rather than Centreville lot.
Is anyone coming from the Arlington (Courthouse) area and could give me a ride? I am of course willing to shell out cash for gas! I may even bake a strawberry pie for the journey?
I need a ride from the White Flint/Rockville Md area. Can pay for gas.
With the potential rain this weekend, the start time may be pust back to late morning. Stay tune for further details.
THe car is back to life. Will be departing from White Flint/Rockville Md area. Can take three people.
I plan to attend, weather permitting of course, and have space for three others leaving from the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area. . .
I hope this is not a silly question but is the festival free, if not what is the cost to attend. Also is the group going to meetup at a specific time and location at the event
I am cancelling this Meetup. The forecast for rain will continue through tomorrow night.
This looks like fun -- I've always wanted to go to one of these festivals so what better time? Plus with the fall weather hopefully the leaves will make for some great shots!
Thanks for organizing :-)
