February DCRUG: Penetration Testing and Compojure/Rails Comparison

This location is shown only to members

Our meetings are open to all experience levels, from total novices to expert Rubyists.

Current agenda:

  • "Preparing Your Web App for Penetration Testing" Aaron Higbee - A security expert will walk us through why you would want your application "pentested", what that process entails, and how your application's security can be improved based on the results of that assessment.
  • "A Comparison of Compojure and Rails" Conrad Barski - The Author of "Land of Lisp" presents an interesting web framework written in Clojure, and outlines philosophical differences from Rails, on topics such as "convention over configuration" and "monkey patching", and what Ruby on Rails developers can learn from them.

We now meet monthly at Logik headquaters, located on the 3rd floor at 709 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. The closest Metro stop is Gallery Place / Chinatown (Red line).

We always need presenters, so if you have a topic or project on which you'd like to do a 20-30 minute presentation on anything Ruby-related, Rails-related or possibly of interest to Ruby developers, please email me at josephgrossberg at gmail.com and we'll schedule you to speak. If have presented before, you are welcome to give a presentation on a new topic. This is a great chance for some of you guys and gals lingering in the back of the room to share some of the cool things you are working on. Don't be shy -- you're among fellow geeks. :)

As always, we'll have an ample supply of free pizza and soda for all attendees, so don't worry about eating dinner beforehand.

And we'll be heading around the corner to Rocket Bar for a drink or two after the meeting, to unwind and socialize with fellow techies.

I'm really looking forward to sharing some information about the pentest process, both from the testing point of view but also from the business side. --aaron
