Re: [dcrug] Start a side project

I found it hilarious, Brent.

Some may have noticed that the forum is far more lenient now. We don't immediately ban those who post a job opening or something off topic. With that said, we still kindly request that folks ask before posting any non-ruby related messages or solicitations (jobs, products, etc). While we'd like to encourage open and free discussions we're also mindful that off topic messages can be annoying and distracting.

I appreciate (and agree with the defense), but I must confess, on a second reading, my email was pretty over the top. I apologize to anyone that didn't find it hysterical.

Personally, I found Brent's posting more useful than Benji's.  I think the rebuke was directed to the wrong person.  I appreciate the need to keep the list civil, and I also think it's easy to be excessively concerned about the tender feelings of people who appear to desire to manipulate the list for their financial gratification.

I've seen this before and I don't think this is a place for marketing.  This is a group dedicated to the technology of Ruby and supporting tools. Period.

I don't have time to weed through e-mails that are not related, in a group that is focused on a specific issue.

Brent,

Regardless of your opinion of FounderDating, or any particular person, this is not a place to throw personal insults out.
If this happens again, you'll be banned.

Seriously. I hit up LinkedIn and bam: Benji Hill, Marketing person for FounderDating (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/benji-hill/26/aab/950). This kind of dissembling is utterly pathetic. It is so disingenuous it makes me puke in my mouth a little.

I suppose if I knew Dave McClure or Andy Weissman a bit better, I might be able to get Benji in some real trouble, but he will have to live with the knowledge that he is a tool. That has to be worse.

More to the point, if you are a technical person and interested in meeting potential co-founders, you could meet with me. I am a business-ey guy, easy to Google and somewhat legit. I actually have attended two meetups (Which Benji, based in SF, will never do), have no preconceived start-up idea, but am always looking for good ideas and good future co-founders. Also, I like great cappuccinos.

Same here. I applied and never hear anything. Is it just a scam and are they just trying to gather email adresses?

Yeah, I applied to this a few months ago but was not approved to join. No reason given.

FounderDating (FD) is an invite-only, online network for entrepreneurs to connect with cofounders. Why FD?
High Quality - members are carefully screened for quality and readiness (no recruiters, etc.)
