Posting messages about relevant events is fine, spamming the list is not. 
I consider this spam because it wasn't directed at our group. It was clearly pasted in and the same message was probably sent to other groups as well.

Had the original poster just made a personal message to the group, we'd all have the ability to reply, ask questions, etc.
If you are planning to promote something, don't take this list for granted. Write a message that is relevant to all of us and make it personal.
