EPIC DAY RIDE WEST!

Ok its been a while since we have done a big one like this!

175 Miles, some of the best backroads in the semi-local NOVA area.  Snickerville Turnpike and 601 over Mt. Weather.  This is some really kick ass stuff.

EPIC!  This will be a 8+ hour day on your 2 wheel ride, you will get home late, this is not a ride to lunch, this is kick ass doing on your scooter that what most Harley Davidsons riders dare never do.

Windy Roads, Over a damn mountain, have your skill up and ready!  Lunch is possible at this little sandwich shop at the furthest point out, but we can keep whenever.  Pack Snacks....

125cc modern and Vintage friendly pace, solid 45-50mph, brisk through the Twisties, we wont leave anyone behind, but if you are really not comfortable with steep mountain twisties, dont come and over do it.

Meet at Buzz 8am, Departure will be at 9am sharp, get moving west before the cages wake up!

Epic ride was EPIC! The roads were great, good group, nice pace.... and most important, we beat the rain home :-D Good to see everyone today and thanks for making it a great ride turn out. We will be repeating this ride in the fall!

There is a chance for passing isolated Storms on Suday. This means no sustained rain, but we could get hit by a small fast mover. I ride in the rain, and if its just rain, we will ride. If its pouring, we will seek shelter. I own rain gear, but honestly, in this heat, if we get a 15 minute storm, after it passes it will only take 15 minutes to dry off ;-)

We would be interested in an alternate 50cc ride if enough people are willing..,

Todd set one up! Now that we have a one 50cc riders I would set up a future 50cc run on my ruckus. There has not been any others on the board till recently ;)

I am going to shorten and adjust the route just a bit due to the heat. But it's still going to be a epic ride. Lots and lots of twisties and hills.

the heat ain't so bad as long as we keep moving.

Yeah, like I said, once we cross Mt. Weather, we can decide to go the extra 30miles or cut it short. You know me, Ill do whatever :-D

http://rideplanner.harley-david... here is a slightly shorter route from the original ride. We can stop at the base of Mt. Weather on route 601 and make a group decision how far we want to push after the Mountain.

Also. Have a backup plan if your bike breaks down. A friend or towing ibaurance, something. The group will stay with you long enough to know you have a friend on the way, but we do not have a way to get you and your bike home. Just be prepared :)

Just a reminder everyone. Check your tire pressure and oil, show up Sunday morning with a full tank of gas, thee is not a fill up till past the halfway point.

Welcome to the group! What are you riding and how much riding experience do you have. This is a epic day out, but the pace is not anything crazy, just need to be a capable ride :-) Come on out!

Question - would there be any issues with a motorcycle actually coming along with the scooters? Dale has a Harley Road King and he thinks that this would be a fun ride for him as well - Please let me know. If you think he will overtake us to much on the uphill then he will most likely not attend.

Yup, anything 2 weeks us welcome :). Cone along. As long as the bike does not mind the 45 to 50mph pace :)

This route will not be 50cc friendly, sorry guys. I will do a 50cc friendly ride at some point this season. But Mt. Weather alone with the inclines, the 50cc bikes may hit 10mph top speed, its quite a hike. Pace will be 45-50mph cruising speed on the primary roads. its a LONG ride, even on the bigger bikes, this is a full day event.

    • Kevin A.

Okay great, thanks. In the future it would be helpful to have you call out if the ride you're planning is suitable for us 50cc guys :).

      July 2, 2013

    • KMJ187

Other than this ride, I always do, but was just throwing something up quick to gather interest. Until just recent history we did not really have any 50cc riders. I have a 50cc myself, would be cool to get a ride going. But this ride is pretty long, fast, and lots of steep inclines. Ill post something later.

I'll be there for the croissants and coffee, and for the ride if it is good for 49cc. Bill

Are you thinking this route will be Vespa 50 cc friendly? My max safe speed is 45 ish...
