From the DFA and MoveOn:

Stand With Dr. Dean for Health Care for All

A public health insurance option is the only way to guarantee health care for all Americans. And to show that we mean business, we all need to tell Congress we won't settle for less.

Please sign the online petition.

I've been a professional in healthcare for 20 years. I am currently an independent RN working outside the system as I no longer can support the way the system treats people unfairly based on the presence or absence of insurance. I also believe in hospice and the "slow medicine" movement.
Our system is backwards. We, the health care professionals, get paid when people are sick. There is no pay or support system to keep people well. Consequently the entire health care system in the US is ethically and morally bankrupt. The hospitals are run by MBA's in Health Administration and directed by their bean counters. Patients are numbers to assess for billable services and RNs are an unfortunate, necessary payroll expenditure that the administrators would get rid of if they could.
RNs for their part, along with Physicians, have abdicated their place in the decision process to the insurance companies. I ask nurses and doctors all the time what they think and I get: I don't know AND I don't have an opinion. DON"T HAVE AN OPINION!!!!???? Physicians and RNs are the trusted front line providers, we stand frequently between life and death for our patients. We are not allowed by our choice of Profession to NOT HAVE AN OPINION.
Mostly I just get in trouble for asking questions and actually having an opinion. But I believe that each of us is the change we need. It starts with one person. I try my best to do my part.
I signed the petition and I hope more will. Unfortunately the problem is so complex and our society is so dumbed down and cowed that I have grave concerns. I think it will take the crash of the system (Medicare) slated by the GAO for 2019 to make any real change happen. I think and hope that President Obama will keep his cool and make the vested interests in the system see they will play his game or forfeit.
