Everyone up for another social meeting? After the last few meetings focused on specific techniques and definitions, we thought we'd mix it up with a more casual one. So this month's meeting will be an informal gathering - come order warm drinks on a fall Saturday and chat with your fellow local astrologers! This is also an opportunity to share anything you've noticed so far in charts regarding the topics of the last few meetings. -------------------- ------ Suggested Donation -------------------- ------ The suggested donation is optional and is requested only in order to make up for the monthly fee charged by Meetup.com for hosting our group's site. Any additional money collected past that will go towards paying future speakers. This suggested donation is *completely optional*, and the meeting is otherwise free. Please come join us for the meeting and share your thoughts regardless of whether or not you can pay the suggested donation.

At this month's meeting we will be holding another study group, similar to the last two meetings, but this time focused on a specific timing technique known as Annual Profections. Annual Profections is the most widespread timing technique in the astrological tradition, having been employed by almost every major astrologer from the 1st century through the 17th century, although strangely usage of the technique has only been revived in modern times quite recently. In this study group we will start by discussing the basic theory of the technique, and then proceed to start working with it by applying it to charts brought by members of the group. Each attendee should bring a timed birth chart that they would like to work with, preferably their own, or at least one which they know well, so that they can start applying the technique, seeing how it works in practice, and sharing any observations that they make in the process. Since Annual Profections are particularly useful in conjunction with the study of transits, if you have an ephemeris then you should bring it as well, as this will aid you in your study of the technique at the meeting. This meeting will feature both basic and advanced material, so it should be suitable for everyone, regardless of your current level of knowledge or skill in astrology. -------------------- ------------- Suggested donation -------------------- ------------- There is a suggested donation of $3-5 for the meeting. The suggested donation is optional and is requested only in order to make up for the monthly fee charged by Meetup.com for hosting our group's site. Any additional money collected past that will go towards paying future speakers. This suggested donation is *completely optional*, and the meeting is otherwise free. Please come join us for the meeting and share your thoughts regardless of whether or not you can pay the suggested donation.

Last month's meeting focused on a recent translation of an astrological text from the 3rd century by Andrea Gerhz that defines important technical concepts from the Hellenistic tradition of astrology. (For more information and reviews of that meeting please see last month's meetup page: http://www.meetup.co m/denver-astrologers /calendar/10844444/ ) This month's meeting will be a continuation of that theme, and we will cover some additional interesting definitions from that text, do a bit of review of the previous ones, and also do some hands on chart work. Bring Your Birth Chart As a supplement to our discussion on these core astrological definitions, attendees should bring copies of their natal chart so that we can see how some of these concepts actually work out in practice. People who attended the previous meeting should think about how some of the techniques and concepts that were discussed apply to their own chart, or charts that they have worked with over the past month, and perhaps be prepared to share some of their insights with the rest of the group. Other attendees who are joining of us for the first time should also bring their charts as well, that way they can jump right in and start applying the techniques to their chart and learning about some of the fundamentals of horoscope delineation. The discussion will range from basic to advanced astrological concepts, so there should be something useful to be gained from everyone who attends the meeting, regardless of what level of skill each attendee has. -------------------- ------------- Suggested donation -------------------- ------------- There is a suggested donation of $3-5 for the meeting. The suggested donation is optional and is requested only in order to make up for the monthly fee charged by Meetup.com for hosting our group's site. This meeting will focus on a recent translation of an astrological text from the 3rd century that was written by the Neoplatonic philosopher and astrologer Porphyry of Tyre. This text, known as the Introduction, was recently translated from ancient Greek into English by Andrea Gehrz, and it defines important astrological concepts from the Hellenistic tradition of astrology. While many of the concepts contained in the text are precursors to concepts still used in modern astrology, there are also a number of important ideas and techniques that are somewhat foreign to contemporary astrological practice. Join us to read and discuss selected passages from the forthcoming translation of this text, and learn how these concepts can be put into useful practice today. -------------------- ------------- Suggested donation -------------------- ------------- There is a suggested donation of $3-5 for the meeting. A gathering at the Mercury Cafe to talk about the fascinating subject of astrology, discuss, network, learn something new, and just have fun! -------------------- ------------- Meeting topic: -------------------- ------------- This month we're going to have a discussion meeting based around the question, "Why do astrology?" Why do you practice and/or study astrology? What have you found it to be useful for, in your own life or those of clients? Intimately related to this are ideas about how astrology works, such as the issues of fate vs. free will, causality vs. synchronicity, etc. How do your own observations about how astrology works relate to why you study or practice astrology? Specific astrological examples are especially encouraged in discussing these ideas.
Additional questions to ponder if relevant: Have the reasons you study astrology or find it useful changed over time? What about as you have learned new techniques? If you consult for others (paid or informally), do you find differences between how it is useful to you vs. others? -------------------- ------------- Why is there a suggested donation? -------------------- ------------- The suggested donation is optional and is requested in order to make up for the organizer fee charged by Meetup.com. Please come join us for the meeting and share your thoughts with us regardless of whether or not you can pay the suggested donation though.

Instead of hosting our usual meeting at the Mercury Cafe this month, instead we are directing our members to attend the Rocky Mountain Astrologers' (ROMA) meeting this month since their featured speaker will be world famous astrologer Robert Hand. Hand is the author of such books as Planets in Transit, Planets in Composite, Horoscope Symbols, and a number of others. It is a somewhat rare occasion to have him in our area, so it would be great for everyone to make an effort to attend his lecture. He will be giving a talk titled The Descent and Ascent of the Soul. While there will be a number of members of the Horoscopic Astrology Group at this meeting, please note that we are not hosting the event, but we are just directing people towards it this month and canceling our usual meeting. As such, there is a $25 attendance fee for non-ROMA/NCGR members who attend Hand's lecture, and that money will go towards those organizations. Also, the meeting is in Boulder rather than Denver. Still, it should be an interesting event, and I hope to see many of you there. More information about the meeting can be found on ROMA's website: http://www.romaastro logers.org/ In April we will resume our normal meetings on the second Saturday at the Mercury Cafe, and we are actually scheduled to host our first out of town speaker for that meeting - world-renown Medieval astrologer Benjamin Dykes. I'm still working out some of the details, but I will let everyone know as soon as he is confirmed.

Alright folks, change of plans - but keep listening, because this meeting will now be free! We are still planning on changing the format of the group in order to incorporate more lectures into each meeting, but during this month's meeting it seems like a better idea to just have a social event so that people can meet up and get to know each other. We have had a lot of new members join since our last meeting in November, so I wanted to try to get a sense of where everyone is at and what each person is looking for in the group. So, we're going to turn this Saturday's meeting into a social gathering at the Mercury Cafe. Bring charts, friends, laptops, etc., and come enjoy the company of your astrological peers. At some point during the meeting we would like to gather and discuss ideas about future meetings and topics. There is no meeting fee, and it looks like the weather is going to be decent, so there is no reason not to come! I hope to see you there.
