*Cancelled* The Origins of the Significations of the Houses and Elements

Update: This meeting has been cancelled due to the snowstorm. Instead we will reschedule the meeting for April.

---

At this month's meeting Chris Brennan will be presenting the results of a recent discovery about about origins of western astrology.

Lecture description from Chris:

I recently submitted a paper for publication in the next ISAR Journal which demonstrates that there was a hidden construct underlying the foundations of western astrology, which provides the explanatory rationale for the significations of the houses, as well as the assignment of the four elements to the signs of the zodiac.

During this meeting I will demonstrate how the four elements came to be assigned to the signs, where the significations of the houses are derived from, and how a few other techniques and concepts are connected to this construct as well.

Although a decent bit of the discussion will be about the history and development of astrology, we will also be discussing some technical matters that are important to the practice of astrology.

Over the course of the meeting we will cover:

  • The origins of western astrology in Hellenistic Egypt in the 1st century BCE.
  • The origins of the significations of the 12 houses.
  • The rationale for sign rulerships in the Thema Mundi.
  • The joys of the planets.
  • A discussion of the four elements and how they came to be associated with the zodiac.
  • The triplicity lords and their rationale.
  • The distinction between day and night charts, and how it is applied to the houses.

This is a pretty big discovery, and I'm excited to share it with everyone in the group.

Handouts and RSVPing

Each attendee will receive a stack of handouts that contains diagrams and other material that is crucial for understanding the concepts presented in the lecture.

If you plan on attending then please RSVP, so that we know how many handouts to print and bring. We will definitely bring some extras, but if you don't RSVP then we can't guarantee that you will get a handout.

Lecture Fee

The fee for the lecture is $5.00.

Length of the Meeting

The meeting will start at 3:00 PM, and the lecture itself will probably go until about 4:30, with time for questions and discussions until about 5:00 PM. After that people are free to hang out and socialize in the cafe.

Note that the Mercury Cafe also serves brunch earlier in the day, so if anyone wants to come early, around 2:00 PM, there will probably be some other astrologers there having brunch.

Library Books

Just a reminder that the Denver Astrology Group now has a small library, and you can check books out from it at each meeting.

It is only $10 a year to sign up for the library, and you can check out 1 book at each meeting, and then you will have to return it at the next meeting the following month.

See our website for a complete catalog of all of the books currently available in the library: http://www.denverastrologygroup.com/library/holdings/

If you would like us to bring a book to the meeting for you to check out then just send an email to Leisa at: [masked]

We will also be bringing a box of some of the best books from the library with us to the meeting, for those of you who would like to browse through them in person.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

part of the problem is what it may be doing in Denver-not always the same as here in Boulder. Keeping an eye out-upslopes are tricky.

I just went ahead and cancelled the meeting.

Yeah! A snowy Saturday and Astrology! I'll be there even if you can't see paint on the road.

Sorry man, but I had to go ahead and cancel, as it looked like the snow was bad enough that most people probably shouldn't be driving around.

It does look like we're going to get a lot of snow. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it after all. I really hope that there is a chance of rescheduling this class. I would be open to other locations like the one suggested.

I went ahead and cancelled the meeting. Not sure yet if we will move to another venue later in the month or just reschedule for April.

Unfortunately I had to go ahead and cancel the meeting due to the snow. Right now it is tentatively rescheduled for April, with the possibility of doing something in-between once I figure out what venues are available. I haven't talked to Marilyn yet at the Mercury Cafe, so I'd like to see if she has anything available.

I'm not sure that we can reschedule with the Merc if the snow goes get bad since they usually plan their calendar out pretty far in advance. Leisa and I will probably be down there one way or another though, and we will talk to Marilyn to see if there are any dates available later in the month to have a second meeting if the weather is really bad and a bunch of people can't make it.

Please please please, if it dumps snow can you do this another day? I want to hear this one more than any other. Does the Merc allow the possibility of next week? If not, next month?

Unfortunately I think we're getting a lot of snow tomorrow and I don't want to drive in bad weather. Is there a possibility that this meeting will be rescheduled? It sounds like such a good meeting!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
