This is not what our group's mailing list is supposed to be used for, and I have send a message to the original sender asking her not to use it for non-group related purposes.?? Everyone in the group please take note that our mailing list is only supposed to be used for news and announcements directed related to the Horoscopic Astrology Group in the future, and if it is used for other purposes then we will have to ask you to leave the Meetup group.?

A note from me ... Pam Everix ... to people I know.?? Today I was one of the 30 people mentioned in this email who spoke in front of the education committee of the State House of Representatives. Thirty articulate people from all walks of life came together to ask that our representatives do the citizen's work by supporting a bill that would make the public schools expenditures available online for anyone to view. As you know, even the new President has said that he wants transparency in government. Since we live in a republic ... i.e. the people rule ...it seems only right that we should know how our money is being spent!? When I spoke to the committee I was reprimanded by the chairman when I suggested that some committee members had already made their minds up before this hearing ... it was obvious by their questions. I was told that was an inappropriate thing for me to say and later? Rep. Peniston gave me a mini lecture and assured me that no one had made up their minds ahead of time. Well, as you can see, she and her Dem. colleagues all voted against the bill and I could have told you that as I sat and listened to their comments/questions.
?
This bill simply allows citizens who pay taxes to know where?their money is being spent.?Why do the school boards and school districts not want us to know where they spend out money? ?To say it is too expensive to implement is bogus. Get a couple computer nerds out of a middle school computer class and they could probably do it for FREE!?
?
More people are waking up everyday to the concept that government needs to show us where the money goes. One school representative said transparency was simply the popular word of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Ah, no!? It is a movement that is going to last a very very long time. That this bill did not go forward, out of this committee, simply shows that citizens, once again, have been flipped off as usual. What I don't think the people who voted against it realize is that the entire country is broiling mad and we aren't going to take it anymore.
?
If you think you should have the right to see where the public schools are spending your tax money .... then I would encourage you to contact the Representatives who think you should stay in the dark and let them know how you feel. And remember their names the next time they are up for reelection. In a recent study, 8 out of 10 citizens of all political groups ... believe all government agencies need to be completely transparent where spending is concerned. How then, can these Democratic Representatives vote to keep us in the dark?

Hello,
?
It was a long hard day and we lost.
?
30 of us took advantage of our political civil right?to address our?State Representatives face to face today, taking 8 hours away from work, income and?family.? That's on top of the 75 -100 emails and phone calls each legislator got from people like you.
?
Today clearly proved that some legislators listen to lobbyists and pay their dues for campaign contributions.
?
After 3 hours of testimony, the House Education Committee voted 8-5 down party lines?and killed SB 57.?
?
All?five republicans voted in favor of school transparency.? All?eight democrats?voted against it.
?
The arguments were:
?
1.? They need more input from the public.
?
2.? Spending information is already available. ?Rep. Nancy Todd said she?finds details boring?with too much information?and prefers the glossy?12 page annual spending book.
?
3.? This is a local issue, yet not one of the nay votes cared that 60%?of school revenue is from state and federal?taxes.?
?
4.? It's not?the right time,?schools are so broke.??(ever hear anything but?"we're broke"?)
?
5.? Transparency isn't a big priority right now, as evidenced by the speakers. (yes one dipwad Rep said that)
?
Here's the good and the bad voting record.
?
State Representatives who voted yes.
Please thank them.?

State Representatives who voted no.
?
Please publicize this list to your friends, family and groups. Most people vote in elections without knowing anything about the candidates.? PLEASE help share this anti-transparency?
voting record far and wide.? We need to put this list on 30 different Colorado blogs and news websites, can you help or know someone with a blog?

Don't despair, don't think your time spent was in vain.? Our mission is just beginning and there's a silver lining in today's outcome.
?
Thank you,
?

?
p.s. if you prefer sending individual?emails to?the Senators or?Reps, try my new email contact program at the website under Resources and Links, look at the bottom of the page.? It copies your email body into each new email and personalizes the salutation.
