The focus of this month's meeting will be a presentation on the history of astrology, along with a discussion about what the various traditions of the past and present have to contribute to the future.

Like other systems which grow and develop over time, there are certain identifiable cycles in the history of astrology that correlate with important changes that take place within the field. One of the most interesting of these is the Uranus-Neptune cycle, which takes place nearly every 200 years, and tends to correlate with a synthesis of different astrological traditions at various points in time.

During the meeting we will identify certain periods in the past in which this cycle has correlated with major turning points in the history of astrology, and this will help us to understand the period that we are in now in the history of astrology with one of these conjunctions having recently taken place.

This will lead to a discussion about where astrology is headed now, and what the tradition might look like a few decades down the road. One of our main goals is to identify certain pieces from each of the astrological traditions of the past and present that have something important to contribute to any synthesis of astrology in the future. What are the most important techniques or concepts from the Medieval or Indian traditions? What about the modern traditions, such as the Cosmobiology school or the psychological tradition?

In preparation for the meeting think about some of these questions, and what some of the most important technical, conceptual and philosophical notions associated with your own approach to astrology are. By sharing some of these ideas with each other within the context of a group discussion we may be able to develop a picture of what the future synthesis of the traditions might look like, or perhaps even play some role in bringing such a synthesis about.

This meeting will be accessible to those with any level of background in astrology; from the beginner to the advanced, there should be something for everyone.

There is no fee for the meeting, although donations of 3 to 5 dollars are appreciated, as they help to cover the $20 a month fee for hosting this page on Meetup.com. Any additional money collected will go towards future speakers.
