Ancient astrologers distinguished between two sets of planets that were thought to be constructive or destructive in the life of a native, referring to one group of planets as "benefics" or "good-doers" and another group as "malefics" or "bad-doers." At this month's meeting we will study this distinction, discuss its merits, and test it out in practice by looking at the charts of group members and sharing our personal experiences regarding which planets have corresponded with easier or more difficult areas of our lives.

Each attendee should bring a copy of their own birth chart, and come prepared to discuss what they perceive as some of the easier or more difficult events in their life, and how that relates to their own nativity. Those who are comfortable should send in their charts ahead of time so that we can make some photocopies of them for the group, so that we can all see the charts that we are discussing. This meeting will be suitable for those with beginner, intermediate or advanced knowledge of astrology. We will discuss the basic concept of benefic and malefic planets, some of the subtle nuances underlying the concept, as well as some ways in which certain chart placements can be mitigated for better or worse.

There is no charge for the meeting, although donations of 3 to 5 dollars are appreciated, as they help to cover the $20 a month fee for hosting this page on Meetup.com. Any additional money collected will go towards future speakers.
