Science Lectures - Dr. Paul Belanger - "Forcing Agents Affecting Climate Change"

  • Please join us in welcoming Dr. Paul E. Belanger in our continuing Science Lecture Series at the Secular Hub! Experience the fascinating topic of "Forcing Agents Affecting Climate Change and why AGW is a real concern" which was delivered most recently at the WIPS Symposium in March.

Dr. Belanger is a Research Associate at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (DMNS), leads the Denver Climate Study Group at the Museum, and is a long-time member of the Western Interior Paleontology Society, among many other accomplishments.

Here is a short preview of the lecture he plans to deliver at the Hub:

Climate changes are known throughout Earth History. One hears a lot about climate change today in the context of human influence on climate change. The observed changes we have experienced this century are relatively small in comparison to glacial/interglacial changes in climate. However, it becomes an issue as we consider the sustainability and disruption of our socio-economic systems…

I've been using XMBC at the hub for several months. We don't have any cable or satellite TV there.

Aside from the speaker's soft voice this was timely and informative

Our own analyses of various forcing functions, at NREL has led to an estimate of excess energy reaching the surface of the earth in the range[masked] w/square meter.
However, the latest issue of AAAS,1 May 2013, pg 1053, expands on the classic papers of Smagorinsky showing that a better representation of coupling between atmospheric water and global circulation is necessary to reduce imprecision in climate model representations.
Dismissal of the fact that climate change is indeed ocurring on the one hand, and the insistence that we can fully model the very complex interaction of among land surface, cryosphere, biosphere, aerosol and chemical processes should caution us from taking extreme positions!
More careful work is needed in modeling global climate changes to confirm the empirical data that points to these changes.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it because I'll be in class, but I have announced it to my group. :)

If you believe in climate change, you aren't truly an atheist, you are someone with a desperate need for religion, and are using climate change as a substitute religion for your missing crutch.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
