Tell Your Story

Some of us were always freethinkers. Some were 'fundies'. Some 'came out' to understanding families...some not so much. Some are still not 'out'.

Whenever I find myself in a room full of non-believers we always seem to end up talking about how we became freethinkers. It's interesting to hear about someone's journey, learn from what they've experienced, tell your own story and find that we may have something else in common.

This event will be just for the purpose of being able to come together to talk about our 'coming out'.

There are two ways that we can proceed: we can go around the room AA style (Hi. My name is Ruth and I'm an atheist. Hi, Ruth!)  or we can get into smaller groups to talk amongst ourselves. I guess this will depend on how many people are interested in this experiment of mine...

Snacks will be provided and drinks and other concessions will be available for purchase from the Hub.

See you there!

I am sorry I missed it, wasn't able to make arrangements for the kiddos. I look forward to the next opportunity to meet you all.

It was such a good turn out and everyone enjoyed it so we will be doing this again soon. But we also have a few other things planned coming up. Hope to see you soon!

It was nice to see all of you and to talk to many of you. We all seem to have come down different paths but we have all have one thing in common.

Well, thanks for having us. We were late but brought pumpkin pie....Aviva had dropped something pretty heavy about her brother on the group, but it is a very current and raw part of her story. We had been under considerable pressure to attend some sort of suicide survivors network or something, but Aviva does not want to hear any of the stupid things religious people say in the face of tragedy. Thanks to everyone for sharing and listening.

No apologies necessary, we were glad you both were able to come! Also please don't feel bad for being honest. If you or she needs a friendly shoulder, I'm happy to listen.

Thank you to both of you for coming and sharing! This is why we wanted a secular community. Humans are natural socializers. It's becoming more of a community for good times and bad. I'm glad everyone felt comfortable enough to share. Thank you both for being so open.

Two questions: first, I can't get there till close to 8 pm, but I'm really interested in coming. Would that be ok? Second, can I bring kids?

    November 5, 2013

    • Katie

I always bring my kid, but he's only eight months so content/language doesn't really matter to me.

If the group is small enough I would like to do it AA style (but I won't be saying I need something greater than myself).
