BIll Nye v Ken Ham Debat Live Stream

Even though I'm totally annoyed that my beloved Science Guy would stoop so low as to give the creationists a platform to try to prove their way of thinking is credible I still think this will be somewhat interesting. Join us at the Hub for a live stream of the debate from Kentucky!

See you there!

I am not a Young Eartrh Creationist and disagree with Ken Hem's interpretation of Genesis Chapters 1 and 2
You do not have to be a Christian and believe in Young Earth Creationism, there are several other ways to approach origins, w/o contradicting scientific interpretations

These 4 models have morphed since I heard versions of them since 1971. Since then they come to be seen as beliefs coming from the apologists angle.

Sorry Ken, I misunderstood your comment. I thought you were saying that YEC did not contradict scientific interpretations.

Wish I could have attended this! Hubby is working late and I didn't have a sitter. Watching it on youtube now though. Should be interesting!

I enjoyed being at the Live Stream. The video was acting up a little at the end of the debate but one should have been able to get the gist of it. Bill Nye did a good job and I think he handled Ken Ham quite easily. Bill was not intimidated in the least. Bill Nye may not be the strongest debater for this venue but he was more than enough. There are others who would not have been as easy on Ken Ham. I know I wouldn't have been.

Bill Nye didn't disappoint me at all. He knows his science and he will quickly admit to what he doesn't know. I love the science side of the debate. I also like the theological side of debate and look forward to those at some future date.

If you ask me, Bill nailed it. He didn't rub Kens nose in his own creationist bullshit as much as I would have liked but. I was glad to see how well Bill did. Bill..Bill..Bill..Bill. Bill Nye the science Guy!

I thought the debate was intelligent and answered some of my questions

How to crush a creationist: Do you think the Flintstones is a documentary? End of debate.

Bill should have just said this and walked off the stage.

Sad that the video quality is poor. Thank you, nonetheless, for showing this event for us. I'll watch the bits we missed later. Hopefully someone posts this somewhere.

At the end of the debate, they said that it would still be available at debatelive.org for the next few days.

I appreciated the intelligent debate at least from the evolutionary perspective -I would like to watch again!

I'm not sure I can make it Tuesday night, but I thought I'd pass along a suggestion for an interesting pre-debate listen, although the we're running short of time. The Thinking Atheist blog & podcast did a very thorough pro & con presentation last week. The link: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thethinkingatheist/2014/01/22/bill-nye-and-the-creationist-guy

It discusses whether such a debate is a good idea for "our" side, whether Bill Nye is the right person to do this, how the deck might be stacked, etc. etc. Seth Andrews interviews a number of prominent atheists including some like Aron Ra and David Silverman, who have debated other Christian apologists. Also the president of an atheist group in Kentucky who has some inside poop on how this debate is being organized and funded. It's worth finding the time to listen if you're trying to decide whether you want to view this debate as a potential train wreck or a civil discussion where people might actually learn something.

One more comment. It is too bad Nye is wasting time with Ham (Young Earth Creationist). No educated person, or student of scientist takes YEC seriously. In fact, it would have been much better to hear a debate between Nye and Francis Collins (Director of NIH) who is a Christian and takes evolution AND creation seriously , under the rubric called BioLogos; i.e, God is the source of both Darwinian evolution and the author of Scripture....

So Ken Ham's out of jail??

    1 · January 31, 2014

    • Greg R.

Ken Ham was never in jail. You're thinking of Kent Hovind.

I am a new member of the DAM Group and am looking forward to seeing/listening to this debate; I have met Nye, the Science Guy, once (in Japan, I believe). I believe that there doesn't have to be acrimony, antipathy or the exercise and influence of unhealthy, divisive, unhelpful emotions amongst theists and atheists, particularly on the subject matter of the origin of the universe. I posit that theists and atheists do not have to demonstrate the mutually-expressed animosity as well as the unhealthy emotions, which both camps direct at each other.

Agreed. It's going to be painful to watch, but maybe Bill will inject some comedy in this sure to be train wreck of a debate.
