What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

Study of issues of paternal neglect, patriarchal control of women (including mothers), lack of economic and political responsibility taken by women, and how they affect children.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

Connection with like-minded folks. Discussion of current issues in the political economy related to atheism.

What do you feel you can offer the group?

Have you done a reading on this issue: while Dawkins, Hitchens et al debunk the God delusion, they don't do a good job explaining why people needed the delusion. Social science arguments that explain why individuals and cultures would invent personal male deities and complex relations with them need to be asserted. Without this component atheism looks like an attack on the family to some. Kids who have fathers who can respond to their needs, who have a good quality interaction with their dads, who have parents who are equals (both earn money, etc.), are able to see their fathers as human beings & to resolve issues with them in real time & not submerge traumas & deficits into their subconscious where this can end up being a hard-baked ideation of a personal male god. I know of a few possible authors on this if others are interested.

Hi- I am a corporate/business lawyer in the Denver-Boulder area. I have a background in social sciences and am especially interested in atheism from that perspective.
