I am tired of the religious believing they have the moral high ground. I once had a conversation with a "good Christian" in which he stated that if he didn't believe in god, he would be running around raping, murdering, and committing general mayhem. I do what is right because my internal deciding engine tells me it is the right thing to do, not because I am in fear suffering supernatural retribution. I feel good when I help people. I feel bad if I do something which hurts someone. Simple. We need to demonstrate that people do not need a fear of heavenly retribution to do the right thing.
Stimulating discussions, friendships.
Great chili and a killer martini. Okay, that, and an ability to break down complex ideas into simpler form for consumption. So why do I feel like I'm in a job interview here? Maybe Groucho Marx was right :-) . Oh, I also bring a sense of humor and good judgement as to when it might be needed, or not needed. A group that takes itself too seriously risks ending up like the Catholic church, dogmatic and inflexible.
Groucho Marx once said, "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member." As much as I believe the validity of that opinion, I am interested in this group.
