What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

I grew up Lynchburg, Virginia. Lynchburg is a wonderful smaller city, but Jerry Falwell and the "Moral" Majority had such a strong presence. Even as a child I saw much hypocrisy. Also, my parents are British, which means they are extremely private about religion and politics. It wasn't until I was an adult that I learned they didn't "believe" and had a liberal view. Just grateful they let me from my own ideas and didn't force dogma down my throat.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

I work in the DoD environment, I could use a little reassurance there really are free thinkers and not just sheep and shepherds out there.

What do you feel you can offer the group?

Hopefully some rational opinions, informed questions and a little humor.

Introduction

I moved to Denver from the East in 07. Colorado is such a welcoming state, and it's a new state without the strong societal hangups prevalent in my hometown. I want to meet like minded people with whom I can exchange ideas and forge new friendships.
