What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

I didn't emerge. I've always been an unbeliever. It just came naturally. Even as a small child forced to go to a Methodist sunday school I did it because my parents told me to, but I never believed what the Methodists told me. I don't know why. This was several years before the 4th grade, when I discovered science - in about 1948, before TV, before NOVA, before plastic dinosaur models, before well-illustrated science books for kids, before any of the science PR that we take for granted now. The average adult American would have known next to nothing about science, which was a cultish geeky concern in those days. Scientists (never physicists or biologists or chemists) were guys with glasses and white coats, rather than the sloppy sweatshirts we know they really wear.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

Contact with other atheists. Info. Free beer. No?

What do you feel you can offer the group?

My God, what do I have to have to get in? Is this a new wrinkle for your group? Do I have to hold a sign down at Civic Center Park?

Introduction

I used to belong to this group & DAFT but I've been inactive for a year and had to change my email address.
