What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

To answer that question - I'd have to say "common sensewashed. I've weathered some religious storms on my personal life. And came out convinced there is no Imaginary, Gaseous, Man-Like Entity Residing in a Cloud! By-the-way. I plan to trademark that acronym: IGMERC. Like it?

What do you hope to get out of this group?

Being around people who don't see a need to worship anything. Not even as our life cycles come to an end will we "find God". As some do. But people who realize treating one another with kindness and respect does not mean they need to be dipped in water, or point to the sky, or give credit to an imaginary being. In other words; I want to be around people who don't let mythology cloud their beautiful minds.

What do you feel you can offer the group?

Another voice. An intelligent, fun voice. Companionship. Some ideas on where to hike and eat and drink. And concert venues and bands to see. And opinions on politicians to vote for and NOT vote for....

Hello, Glad this group exists! I recently heard that about 16% of Americans are unaffiliated with any organized religion. YET we can't have an elected official among our ranks. That needs to change. Maybe groups like this will eventually help.
