What factors influenced you to emerge as a non-believer in a believing society?

I come from a long line of atheists and agnostics, but I must credit the Bush administration for getting me out of the closet.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

Meet like-minded people, from whom I can learn more.

What do you feel you can offer the group?

Hopefully some questions-- not about our basic ideas, but maybe about how we can best go about advancing them.

Introduction

People like us (freethinkers, nonbelievers, etc.) tend to NOT be joiners. A meetup seems to be a way to get organized and meet like-minded people without demanding that they embrace a specific dogma. We can still share a general world view.
