More English Conversation Practice!!

  • Hello everyone,

As the weather gets colder and colder, the hot coffee and tea taste better and better. And what better way to have coffee or tea (or even cold beer) than to practice English with it?!  ;-)  We look forward to seeing you this Sunday!

  • I am very sorry to keep repeating this...  But..  Lately we've been having some problems with members not attending after they take up a "Yes" spot on the Meetup RSVP list.  As a result, unfortunately, we've had some other interested people decide not to attend because they think the meeting is already too full.  This is particularly frustrating to them and to the organizers after we realize that some who RSVP'ed "Yes" do not attend.  So... once again...

  • (1) If you plan to attend, please use RSVP option on the website. But, please do not RSVP with "Yes" until you are quite sure you are attending.  With capacity limits on the meetup, others are affected by your "Yes" RSVP.

  • (2) If your plans change unexpectedly (it happens), please change your RSVP response online as soon as possible.  Waiting until shortly before the meetup to change your RSVP may prevent others from attending.

  • Also, once again...  to maintain this Meetup group on the Meetup website, it costs me $150 each year (2 x $75 payments to  If you attend more than a few times, it would be greatly appreciated if you contribute $10 per year (or whatever contribution you can afford). Only two kind people contributed money thus far this year.  A bit more would be appreciated and will help keep this group going.  Thanks!
  • OK... sorry for the "regulatory" chatter. ;-)  See you soon!

I am looking for a group to get the student I am hosting more involved with speaking English, and possibly other activities he can participate in, like sports or social events. Would this be the place for him?

Hi Debbie, sorry slow reply. Moving week! Yes, this group would probably be very good for your host student to practice English with both native English speakers and ESL people from all over the world. It offers an opportunity for informal English conversation in a relaxed setting (coffeeshop). Ages generally have ranged from 18-70, with most attendees probably in the 22-40 range. However, the organizing of sports and social events is much more random and is usually just done by individual members (not too many centralized events due to, frankly, very busy schedules ;-) )
      Hope this helps!

Hi all of you ESL friends! As the saying goes "TGIF!" (you can ask about that Sunday) ;-) Anyway, since it's Friday afternoon and we're near our maximum limit for attendees to this Sunday's meetup, I just wanted to check in to remind people to keep their "RSVP" on the Meetup website up to date. So, if you already replied "Yes" but your plans are changing and you do not think you can attend, please consider changing the RSVP to "No" sometime soon. This will allow others who are interested and available to attend.
    Much thanks!
