Mohawk Lakes and Continental Falls (Breckenridge)

Waterfall Season is just around the corner! It's time to get your hiking gear ready, and don't forget you camera. This first waterfall hike is a real crowd pleaser.

Mohawk Lakes and Continental Falls

This trail has everything: quiet shaded stroll through forest; fast-moving, whitewater streams; cabin and mining equipment ruins; pristine mountain lakes; great moutain vistas; and arguably the best falls in the area. 265 photos were posted on the Trailheads website after my last group trip here (see here). We will go at least to Upper Mohawk Lake. There are several more lakes beyond that, which will be optional. Will probably stop for a meal afterwards in Dillon or Idaho Springs.

Trail Details

Starting Elevation: 10,350'

Elevation at Upper Mohawk Lake: 12,120'

Elevation Gain: 1,770'

Distance: 7+ Miles round trip.

Difficulty: Moderate (depends on the path taken--could be difficult)

Dogs: No

Weather is unpredictable at these elevations, be prepared for anything.

Directions to trailhead

From I-70 take exit 203 and travel south on hwy 9 for 13.2 miles and turn right at Spruce Creek Rd. Parking lot is on right about 1.2 miles. I want to be at the trailhead by 8:30--after that parking becomes a challenge.

Carpool Location

Wooly Mammoth Lot, across from the Conoco, section BB. Exit 259 from I70 westbound. This is the Morrison Exit. Turn right onto Colfax, then make an immediate Left onto Mt Vernon Canyon Rd. Continue until you see the Conoco on the right, then enter the lot on the Left.

Additional Terms and Conditions

You are responsible for knowing where the carpool location and the trailhead are and getting there on time. You are responsible for researching the trail and knowing your own limits. You are responsible for dressing appropriately and bringing the necessary gear, water and snacks. This trip--as are all trips with this group unless otherwise noted--is an all day outing, do not sign up if you have other obligations that afternoon. The pace will be moderate, you will need to be in better-than-average shape to do this trip. It is considered bad etiquette to cancel at the last minute; any cancellation within 24 hours of the start of this meetup without a very good reason will be treated as a no-show.

This is a participate at your own risk event.

A few reminders before the big day...Read the entire page, specifically the additional terms and conditions. No dogs allowed on this trip. Any cancellation within 24 hours of the start of the meetup will be treated like a no-show. You want to avoid no-shows at all costs, not only will it cost you $3, but you risk being disallowed on future trips. Print out the directions to the carpool location as well as the trailhead, don't count on riding with someone who knows the way. Bring cash for drivers for gas. Be on time, we will leave the carpool location at 7am sharp.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
