Due to a weather issue, let's try Bill Moore Lake again in Clear Creek County, near Idaho Springs and Empire. We'll take the CDT trail on the Idaho Springs side.
Expect a hike of about 7 miles RT with 1,000 feet of elev. gain. (I'm told some sections are steep.)
The trail starts on a Jeep road near Idaho Springs. We'll drive as far as we are comfortable, then hike the rest of the way. Typically we get within about a half mile of the trailhead.
TIME & LOCATION: Meet at 2:30, we'll leave at 2:40 from the Wooly Mammoth parking lot, section GG. (I-70, exit Morrison, go north, turn left at the first stop light and park in the parking lot on the northwest corner.)
If you want to meet near Idaho Springs, meet at 3pm at I-70, exit 238/Fall River Road.
Directions to trailhead: I-70, exit 238. Drive a short distance and turn right on Fall River Road. Reset your odometer. Drive 6.5 miles to the turnoff to RD 274. The turnoff is on a big curve, right next to a nice home.
RD 274 is a dirt road. From here, it's about 2 miles to the CDT. Go as far as you're comfortable driving, find a place to park and start hiking.
*** We'll carpool/caravan to the trailhead, hike and return. (Please give your drivers $5 gas money per person)
No dogs please.
Donation: $1 ($0 if unemployed)
