Andrews Glacier and tarn
A tarn is a pond at the foot of a glacier. This is an opportunity to get off the beaten path. This trail offers a rugged, unspoiled beauty you won't find in other parts of the park. It is lightly used, probably because it involves some boulder scrambling and is more difficult than the average RMNP trail. Bring a plastic bag or something else to sit on if you think you might like to try sliding (glissading) down part of the glacier--at your own risk, of course.
Starting Elevation: 9180'
Elevation at Andrews tarn: 11,405'
Elevation Gain: 2,225'
Difficulty: Moderately Difficult
Distance: 9 Miles round trip.
Weather is unpredictable at these elevations, be prepared for anything.
We will meet at the park-n-ride at 88th and Sheridan at 7:00. I expect to be at the north end of the lot. Look for my red SUV. We will carpool to the free shuttle parking lot in RMNP and ride the shuttle to the Glacier Gorge trailhead. Those persons up north can meet us at the shuttle lot around 8:30--just be sure to let me know if you do not intend to meet at the carpool location. The free shuttle is inside RMNP, so someone from each vehicle will need to have a park pass.

The pace will be on the fast side, you will need to be in good shape to do this trip. It is considered poor etiquette to cancel at the last minute; any cancellation within 24 hours of the start of this meetup for any reason will be treated as a no-show. Bring cash for drivers for gas.
