Wednesday afternoon hike - Mount Galbraith (Golden)

  • Oct 16, 2013 · 3:00 PM

It appears Mount Galbraith Open Space park is open, but damaged, so expect ruts and obstacles.

Hike details: The hike is 4.2 miles with about 900 feet of elevation gain. Read about the hike here. Park map.

Pace: Expect a moderate pace.

Directions: The trailhead is on Golden Gate Canyon road, 1.3 miles west of Highway 93. That puts it a couple miles north of Golden. For a map/directions to the trailhead, click on this map, right click on the green arrow and click on "directions to here."

Time: Arrive at 3PM, we'll start at 3:10PM. If you're late, catch up. Trails here are hiker only, no bikes.

Dogs: No dogs due to skinny trails.

Donation: $1 ($0 if unemployed/furloughed)

Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I spend hours researching hikes and rely on various sources, but I can't vouch for their accuracy. I am not a professional guide, you are responsible for yourself. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear you require.

great hike did anyone finally see those mt lions....thanks deb for the ride back and showing me the CORRECT nightbird trail entrance as I was crossing from the wrong ridge to the trail I did see some deer and they blended into the foliage well...looks like a great place to hike not too steep and you feel like you are alone in the wilderness

I hiked this trail for the first time about a month ago and it is now my favorite hike. Combines great scenery with a decent amount of vertical without being TOO steep or rocky.

Is there any estimate of the time the whole hike will take? I would like to do it, but I am attending a concert that same night so I would need to get back from the hike soon enough to not be rushing things.

Starting at 3:10, we should finish by 5:10, but if you need to leave at a certain time, come hike with us and turn around when you need to.
