Black Lake (and beyond?) Snowshoe (RMNP)

Black Lake (and beyond?) Rocky Mtn Natl Park

We will pass Mills and Jewel Lakes on the way to Black Lake, three of the most beautiful lakes in RMNP--the pictures below are of Mills Lake, Jewel Lake and Black Lake, respectively. For those who are in really good shape, we might go a short distance beyond Black Lake, up the gorge towards Longs Peak (seen in the 3rd picture below) to get a closer look at the frozen waterfalls (also seen in the picture). This trip is not recommended for beginners. Weather at these elevations is unpredictable, dress in layers and be prepared for any weather conditions. In addition to snowshoes, it is recommended that you bring micro-spikes, gaitors, poles and a camera. We will be walking across the frozen lakes, so do not sign up if you have a problem with that.

There is a fee to get into the park but hopefully there will enough people signing up with passes that we  have one pass per car. We may stop for lunch after in Lyons.

Additional Terms and Conditions

You are responsible for knowing where the carpool location and the trailhead are and getting there on time. You are responsible for researching the trail and knowing your own limits. You are responsible for dressing appropriately and bringing the necessary gear, water and snacks. This trip--as are all trips with this group unless otherwise noted--is an all day outing, do not sign up if you have other obligations that afternoon. The pace will be moderately fast, as are all of my more difficult trips, do not sign up if you have been on other outings in which the group has had to wait for you. It is bad etiquette to cancel at the last minute, cancellations within 24 hours of the start of this meetup will be treated as a no-show.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
