  • May 14, 2014 · 4:45 PM

Corwina Park after work hike

Meet at 4:30PM. Leaving the trailhead at 4:45 PM

This trail offers a beautiful gulch with a babbling brook, open meadows, wild flowers and rock outcroppings. This will be a "medium" paced hike. We will hike up to the lookout area, hang around for awhile and enjoy the great views of Kittredge and the surrounding mountains. From there we will head back to the Bear Creek trail and head south for a mile or so before turning around and returning to the parking area.

Distance: ~5 miles

Elevation Gain: ~1,000'

Difficulty: Moderate

Dogs: No dogs

Donation: $1 donation requested to the organizer. ($0 if you're unemployed

Trail Location: From C470 and Morrison Rd, travel 7.6 miles west on Hwy 74. Turn left and cross the little bridge into Corwina Park. You will pass 2 other Corwina Park parking areas one on your left and one on your right. This one is on your left if you are going up the canyon. (south) You will see a gated house on the other side of the bridge and the parking lot.

Here is a link to the parking lot location.

Be aware, this is not the easiest place to find.

Hiking is risky. Every year people are hurt and killed because they go beyond their abilities, get lost, or bring the wrong gear. I spend hours researching hikes and rely on various sources, but I can't vouch for their accuracy. I am not a professional guide, you are responsible for yourself. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety and will do the necessary research to understand the conditions of this hike and the gear you require.

Lonnie, I'd meet you there. It may help to have two people looking for the tricky location. Meet at 4:15?

Would you guys mind another rider/driver? I have never been to this place, either. I drive a red Mazda Tribute. This is the big Conoco right at the exit for Red Rocks, right? Thanks!

Hi, remember, this trail head is hard to find. We will try and leave on time, so if you are late catch up. But don't rush. This will be a more leisurely hike given the snowy/icy conditions. Be prepared. No need to buy traction if you don't have it, but if you do, you should consider bringing it (and poles). Have your friendly flexibly attitude with you :). We will do our best to have fun. My guess is it will be a little cold and icy and snowy and slippery.

Probably should bring snow trackers, poles. They had a lot of snow & this trail is mostly shaded.
