Afternoon hike -- Apex Park, Golden

  • November 5, 2012 · 4:00 PM

Grab your headlamp and come hike Monday afternoon at Apex Park!

Distance: We will be hiking about 4.7 miles with 1,000 feet of elev. gain. Meet at 4pm and start at 4:10. We'll take the Apex Trail to Sluice box, go to the top, then drop back down the front side.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Sunset is 4:54, twilight ends at 5:22, so this hike will finish in the dark. The park officially closes at 5:54, so we must hike at a moderate to fast pace.

Dogs: No dogs, the trail is too thin and busy.

Donation: $1 ($0 if unemployed)

Directions: From 6th/I-70/C470, take I-70 West to exit 259, Morrison. Turn right. Drive 1.1 miles to Heritage Road (not Heritage Square), turn left. As you come around that first turn, take a quick left onto an unsigned paved road to the parking lot. (If you see Kimball or Berthoud streets, you've gone too far. Turn around, there is a sign for Apex park in the other direction.) (We'll be parking in lower parking, not the upper lot of Heritage Square parking lot.)

This is a great afterwork hike. Sun went down and we could see the lights of Golden! We had a fast group...good workout ...seems like we got to the top sooner than we usually do. The trai down was less rocky a tiny bit chilly but wonderful

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
