Snowshoe- Abyss Lake Trail

We'll drive on Rte. 285 to Grant and then take the Guanella Pass road and drive about 8 miles to the trailhead. We'll snowshoe or hike if there is not much snow from the Abyss Lake TH along Scott Gomer Creek for about 3 miles . If the group wants to extend the trip we can go for an additional mile or so. Elevation gain is about 1000'. This a real pretty trail through the trees that opens up into a high mountain valley with beaver ponds and mountain peaks. See National Geographic Map- Idaho Springs, Georgetown, Loveland Pass or the Mt. Evens topo. Please dress for winter conditions and bring extra clothes. Please check your snowshoes and other gear. Refreshment stop on the way back.

I'm a little confused about which parts of the Guanella Pass rd are open. Can I get there from the north, or only the south?

I've only snowshoed once before so am canceling as well. I've already rented snowshoes, so if any other beginners want to snowshoe this day, let me know!
