Good Morning Denver Trail Heads,
November is here and yet not enough snow for snowshoeing. Can you believe it? The info on Snowshoe rentals last month was premature. If you need information on snowshoe rentals, go to Snowshoe Rental Info
. Late Drops and No Shows
You may have noticed our events fees have changed. For weekend events, we are now charging $2 and for weekday evening events $1. There are several reasons for the change but mainly to try and cut down on members joining events without checking into them. Besides, $2 to have someone do the planning so you just have to show up is pretty minimal. You spend way more on food, gas or a single beer after the hike then that. We are also imposing a $3 'Late Drop' and 'No Show' fee. If you sign up for an event, show up. If you drop within 24 hours of the event or do not show up, you will be charged $3 and will not be able to sign up for events until it is paid. Non payment will result in removal from the group. If you have a good reason, please be sure and let us know. We are regular people just like you and sometimes things come up for us as well. The problem keeps getting bigger though, so we are trying to do something about it.
OK, now on to the fun stuff. Favorite Hike
We would like to know which hike you enjoyed the most this season and why. Was it the location, the people, the weather? Look for the My Favorite Hike event that will be posted soon. Sign up for the event and tell us what you enjoyed the most. This will not be a real event, the event date will be the end of the poll. Read the instructions in the event description for more information on how to get the information to us. Meetup is just not setup for this kind of thing, so we are trying this out. Hope it works. Snowshoe Racing Team
Are you interested in racing as a team for the Denver Trail Heads? If so, we want to hear from you. Along with our normal snowshoe events and demo days, Irene is planning on entering some established racing events. If you are interested, contact her by sending her an email here Irene's Email
. If we get enough interest, we could have a racing team. Debbie's Deals
Here are a couple of gear deals from Debbie
- Thermal underwear for $5 at Walmart, and warmer wear for $7.50.
- Ice Cleats at Walmart for $9. Not as good as yak trax, but cheaper and maybe good for beginners.
- SnowTrax at Costco, $19.99 for 2 pair. They are $20 each at REI and Sports Authority.
Also, don't forget, Matt found Headlamps at Home Depot for $10 and $15 with batteries.
Finally, Scott from Weekend Hikers Plus sent this out. You may want to check it out: Golite is having a large equipment sale and I've heard you can get some really good deals on some really good equipment. The Golite warehouse is located in Boulder at 3550 Frontier Ave. That's on Pearl St. between 30th and Foothills. The sale is going to be from Nov. 13th to Nov. 21st. Event Information and Descriptions
If you are looking for information regarding Denver Trail Heads events you can always find it in the Files
section. Here are the links to a couple of the docs. Event Descriptions Event Limits Winter Safety
It's time to make a winter gear bag for your car. It should have gloves, hat, extra jacket, traction devices, because you never know what conditions are going to be like at the trailhead...
Please come join us for an upcoming event. I know many people join the group with good intentions, but then get nervous about coming out. Everyone is welcome and you will find our members are very very friendly. Most people join events alone, but leave with new friends.
Thanks and I hope to see you on the trail soon.
