Pitchapalooza

On January 10th at 7:30 PM at Denver's Tattered Cover Book Store, The Book Doctors, aka Arielle Eckstut & David Henry Sterry, authors of the Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published will present: Pitchapalooza! It's American Idol for books - only without Simon. Writers get a shot to pitch to a panel of publishing experts. But they only get one minute. Afterwards, the judges critique everything from idea to style to potential in the marketplace and much, much more. It's educational & entertaining. The winner gets a free consultation & a chance to jump start their book career. Arielle and David have taught everywhere from Stanford to the Miami Book Festival to the world famous Stand Bookstore. They have helped dozens & dozens of talented writers become published authors. January 10th, 2011 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Tattered Cover Book Store [masked]th Street Denver, CO). I was quite surprised by the amount good criticism the speakers were able to give in such a short time to so many pitches!

This was a marketing tour for the presenters own book. It was sad to see so many desperate authors feverishly buying their book on getting published and signing up for consults which from the website will be 15 minutes long (for which the presenters normally charge $150.00). People actually held up their purchased books for an on-cue photo for the presenters. Yuck! I actually think this protocol is dangerous for new writers . how can you possibly present your book in under one minute?

A great teaching event, we really learned about what publishers need when it comes to pitching our projects.

it was great...david and arielle listen well and offer great advice with a very positive supportive atmosphere. They are generous with their time offering free consultation.

Even though my name wasn't pulled to present, the rest of the pitches were fascinating, and the critique was enlightening and entertaining. Can't say enough about the panel. Good stuff!

The best part of doing this was the exercise of trying to describe my book in one minute. It took me three days to write my pitch, but it was worth it. There were a lot of great book ideas pitched.

Or maybe it really is the "world-famous STAND bookstore." That's what it says in the original press release. I contacted 'em on their Facebook.
