What:   Gauchezco Wine Social Party with Winemaker Eric Anesi, on the Patio at Second Home/JW Marriott   ( see photos at Second Home/JW Marriott from last fall's event, you can see the patio and demographic) From the land of the "Gaucho" in Mendoza Argentina, a property rich with history, at one time overrun by the Banditos.  Enjoy a late afternoon patio party with Denver's hottest crowd!

Meet young winemaker Eric Anesi (CU grad).....a really cool story!  At a very young age, he studied winemaking overseas, from some of the top winemakers in Europe before he and his family acquired the property now known as Gauchezco, in Mendoza, Argentina, old vines in the shadow of the Andes.  This young winery is already producing wines with ratings.  They are well known for their Malbecs and Torrentes and have ratings on a few of the wines, most recently in Wine Enthusiast.

When: Sunday June 12, 2011 at 5:00 PM    This is a Sunday, we start an hour earlier than our weeknight events- late afternoon!

Where:  Second Home at the JW Marriott (Cherry Creek North)  150 Clayton Lane   Denver, CO 80206   (Parking in the past has been free valet with a validation at the restaurant.    This is a private party blocked off from the public and last minute walk ups will be turned away.

Although our events are not singles only, they are wine social mixers. Tickets are split so we have a balance of males, females and couples.

To be announced soon

Dinner after our event: We will have a group staying for dinner after the event, usually 20-30 people.   Please RSVP on eventbrite for this portion of the event so we can get a headcount for staffing.  We are working with the chef to set up a dinner special and of course Second Home's bar area will be open after the event.   We encourage you to stay and order a sandwich, appetizer or dessert if you want to and detox.

About our events: Denver Wine Meetup/ events are a unique opportunity to socialize with other young/mid professionals and make new friends over select wines paired with appetizers, sometimes with the winemaker visiting.

Our events differ from the many "happy hours" around Denver and high priced wine organizations, distributor/festival type events as they are a wine social with the opportunity to meet a winemaker and focus on learning about a winery and/or a varietal .  Our events provide members a unique wine and culinary pairing event with the aspect of a social mixer at an affordable price.

This is a "social mixer" for young professionals who want to learn about wine, please leave the "business" at home.  If you are looking for business clients, please check out the business networking groups on the meetup system.  Thanks.

Please note:  This event will sell out with 100 on a Sunday afternoon.  Our party area will be private (and blocked from the public) and we will turn away folks who do not have a ticket as we must provide the headcount to the chef and winemaker.   Our intention is to be on the patio, if we have bad weather we'll move it inside of Second Home.

Wine Education

Malbec: Originally used as a blending grape in France’s Bordeaux region, Malbec has found its true home in Argentina’s Mendoza region, hundreds of miles west of Buenos Aires just adjacent to the Andes..    The Malbec grape was largely a failure in France because vintners could never coax a rich wine from it. But malbec flourishes in Mendoza, Characterized by a spicy, dark fruit, these malbec wines can be complex, intense, and worthy of aging. In fact, they can compete with Bordeaux several times the price

There, the grape produces darkly fruity wines with hints of black pepper and leather like a traditional rustic country red, but with riper, fuller fruit. Malbecs are often very affordable, too, and go wonderfully with steaks and roasts, hearty stews and grilled sausages. As the outdoor cooking season gets under way in earnest, with its plethora of grilled and roasted meats, malbecs would make fine choices

Torrontes: The wines made from the Torrontes grape have been, for many years, the visiting-card of the Argentine Wine  Producers and have received many international awards. As it has progressed in the international market, it has become the emblematic white wine of Argentina.

Torrontes is the most distinctive of all Argentine wines, including both white and red, because Argentina is the only country to produce it. It is considered a wholly Argentine variety.
