When she refused to be silenced by the Talaban, in October 2012, at age 15 Malala was shot in the head point-blank while riding the bus home from school in Pakistan.

They do have a full bar, although I don't think blender drinks. Happy hour ends at 7, which I think amounts to a dollar savings on beers and wines.

Hi! I'm very much looking forward to my first meetup tomorrow. I'm about 1/4 way through the book but plan to binge read today. I have two questions: 1) The meetup invite says 7:00, but I see Alice's post about dinner at 6:00... Does this mean dinner is optional and before the actual meeting? 2) Is it okay to bring someone with me who has not read the book?

    Thanks much!

The book discussion starts at 7 pm. Dinner is always available and

Hi Rebeka, Dinner is something the Press Club does, not aimed at book meetup members, but certainly available to us. The price is usually around $10 and is just the one choice, sort of family style, and I mentioned the one offered for this Thurs. Usually just a few of us eat there and yes those of us who do, do it prior to the meeting. I find it convenient. So I guess the answer is that it is optional. It is certainly OK to bring a guest who hasn't read the book. Sometimes even our members haven't read the book or not all of it.

Thanks so much for your quick reply! We will probably be there closer to 7:00. From the pictures, it looks like they have a full bar, which is appealing.

Dinner Thurs is fried chicken, mashed potatoes, vege, and I would assume salad. I'll be there, hopefully around 6 if anyone cares to join me.

Ellen, good luck to your husband with his surgery.

Thank you for your consideration. I am proud to be a member of this group. From time to time may I offer suggestions for a book review?

The Periodic Table consists of 118 elements with atomic numbers totaling 7021. To the best of our knowledge, all the matter and the spiritual components in the universe are bound to these 118 elements.

No Mr. Hamilton it is not ok. We do not promote or advertise authors. This is a reading discussion group only.

I wrote a book that is published by Amazon and Kindle.
Is it proper to speak of a published book or its website? "The Essence of Nature"

Yes, keeping with tradition. I'm the one that nominated Malala. However, I nominated Mark Twain too and was there for that. Hope there's not a curse because I nominated Poisonwood Bible too which is far in the lead for the June selection and I really want to be there for that.

Does this mean that, in keeping with tradition, the person who nominated the book will NOT be present for its discussion? I am almost starting to think that there is a curse at work here!

Good luck with the move, Marilyn. I know you'll be glad to have this all behind you.

I'm again preparing to move. This time to my permanent new condo, too crazy right now. Sorry to miss the May discussion.

I just realized that May was a 5 Thurs month and I made a commitment for the 15th thinking it was on the 2nd Thurs. As the commitment involved a payment which I can't get back, I guess I have to follow through with that. Gosh Darn it! I was really looking forward to discussing this book. Still reading it and liking it a lot. It's not often I really like a non-fiction.

If anyone can't readily find this at the library or used and could read it in electronic format, I have it as a PDF - drop me a note that includes an e-mail address where I can send you the 3MB file.
