THE POISONWOOD BIBLE  by Barbara Kingsolver is the epic story of a missionary family's tragic undoing in Africa's Congo in 1959.  The story is narrated by the five women of the family during Congo's fight for independence from Belgium while their family and the country struggle through losses and toward redemption.

Great discussion on my favorite book ever (so far). I think we really could have discussed this for another hour or close to it. I still had a few questions to throw out, but there wasn't time. Who did and didn't assimilate into Africa and how did they assimilate? was the burning question I still had.

Here's the NY Times review of Poisonwood Bible, to kickstart the conversation. See you tonight!

ps--I'm going to try for this local literary event before and maybe after (if I just can't get enough lit...) https://lighthousewriters.org/content/lit-fest

Hi All! I was looking forward to tonight's discussion, but I just found out I need to go to a concert at RRCC to support the music department. Dang, it was a great book! Hope to see you all at the net one.

Was really looking forward to joining the discussion on this book, but I find I have a conflict now. My daughter's wedding is in two weeks in Portland and mini issues keep popping up that need attending to. Next month.

Just started reading this book (fantastic by the way) and just found out I am being sent to Houston for work that week. I was really looking forward to this first book club experience. Hope to make the next one.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
