August Fiction Bookclub

Over one humid Appalachian summer, The Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver weaves together three stories of human love and the discovery of connectiveness to one another and to the flora and fauna with which they share a place.

It was my first time, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Even though I hadn't quite finished the book, the members inspired me to finish it for sure with their lively and in-depth discussion.

Good discussion, though overall the readers seemed to feel the book was a bit lacking in depth.

I appreciated the varied perspectives on a book I had appreciated less than some by Kingsolver. I also value the added insight that caused some amount of re-evaluation on my part.

The DPL system is running short of copies of this, though they do appear to have electronic copies remaining; I have a PDF copy (unrestricted) if anyone needs it that way (contact me).

An unexpected conflict will keep me away this time, but by next month's book discussion I'll hope to be able to attend. The library branch on Bayaud has a copy, at last, which I'll no longer need so check it out if you need to review.

I read this some time ago, didn't have an opportunity to discuss it then so look forward to reviewing it and hearing the reactions of the group.
