October Fiction Meet-up

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is a chronicle of 30 years of Afghan history told through the lives of two women brought together by war, loss and fate.  With heart-wrenching power and suspense, Hosseini shows how a woman's love for her family can move her to shocking and heroic acts of self-sacrifice.

Oh, that's my job, keeping us focused on the book, at least for the first hour... What an intriguing story! Just finished it and am looking forward to the conversation. JP pointed out that we should all plan on 90 minutes, so we have plenty of time to talk.

I'll be in town after all and am looking forward to this conversation. Let's also plan our holiday party at this meeting.

OK, who's really into this book and can lead the discussion? I've been sent out of town that week and probably won't be back.

Amazon has the first chapter available to read, and their Marketplace has copies available used for under $6 with shipping -

I read this book years ago and loved it. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this time. Thanks.

I just found this group and unfortunately will be out of town for this one, but this is one of my all time favorite books! It affected me deeply when I read it 3 years ago and it continues to shape how I see Afghanistan now. Enjoy!

I read this book a few years ago, and this was one of my favorite books ever! Well worth reading.

This looks like a winner, and the DPL has 14 copies available in both hardback and audio version.
    Great choice!
