Let's go with Jim on a hike!
Hike: To the top of south Tabletop Mountain in Golden-- this mountain was featured on Coors beer cans for years and is a scenic overlook into Golden, Green Mountain to the south, Denver to the east, and Lookout Mountain to the west. There was once even a restaurant on top 50 - 60 years ago. Difficulty: Easy to moderate hike. About 45 - 60 minutes to the top, maybe 15 - 20 minutes enjoying the view, and 20 - 30 minutes back down. Paths-- mainly switchbacks-- all the way.
What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, good walking shoes (hiking boots ideal but running shoes are OK), water bottle, lightweight shorts or pants and maybe a synthetic jersey or shirt to wick away any sweat.
Bring your lightweight binoculars if you have some-- we look eastward to what seems an imposing height from Higher Grounds Coffee shop; an hour later we're on the top looking down with binoculars at Higher Grounds where we started out.
Saturday, July 12th The wild flowers are still in bloom!
Where/when to meet: At Higher Grounds Coffee shop at 14th & Washington Street (this is the main north-south street running through downtown). Let's meet there at 8:45am, but the hike starts at 9:30am. Have a coffee on the deck outside beforehand, maybe have a breakfast roll, and a bathroom break before we start walking. Where to park: Go several blocks west of Washington St. from Higher Grounds and there is no limit on parking times on the streets-- school is out at Colorado School of Mines. There are some city parking lots but beware of street parking with only 2-hour time limits.
Afterwards: Why rush home? How about lunch together? Thai Gold Restaurant is a block to the east of Higher Grounds. To "pay" Jim for leading us on this hike we will pitch in for his lunch afterwards!
Let me know if you have any questions!
