Climb Castlewood Canyon this coming Sat

Let's go for an outdoor climb this Sat at Castlewood Canyon. Let's start early and meet at the King Sooper parking lot by I-25 Exit 184 (Founders Pkwy, Castle Rock) at 8am. We can then carpool to the park.

I am not familiar with the climbing location but will bring a guide book. I believe a few of you know where to go already.

Just some more information about our climb this Sat. Let's go to the Grocery Store Wall area to start with. The area has the large collection of TR routes ranging from 5.8 to 5.12a. It's easily accessible from the west entrance of the park. Here is the link to the details (Thank you Mike!!)
    http://www.mountainproject.com/v/the-grocery-store-walls/105744579

So if you can't meet us at King Sooper at 8am, please use the above link to go to the climbing site directly. For those who would like to carpool into the park, come to King Sooper at 8am by I[masked] Exit and look for a blue RAV4. I am 5'9", Asian, will be wearing a hot pink tank.

I am definitely in! Moved to Denver 4 months ago and been looking to network with some local climbers. I don't have a rope but will bring a Grigri and quickdraws.

Castlewood has become my local crag, it seems. The local route developers are really cool. I will try to make it.

Question. Is this one of the easiest local cragging areas? I'm looking for some "beginner climbs" so my husband can join too. If not Castlewood, can you reco something to me? Eva

    July 15, 2013

    • Christine

From my past experiences and what I heard, this is an easier area, but still a ton of challenging 11's as well. So I would say it's a pretty good mix for all levels.

      July 15, 2013

    • Timothy K.

This is not an easy area, in my experience. At least, not if you go by the listed ratings. I climb almost a number grade lower here sometimes. Bit the climbs are short and easy to top-rope.

The climbing is gymnastic and pumpy, and generally dead vertical to overhanging.

I dont have a ton of gear - just the basics. Will that be okay for this occasion?

    July 15, 2013

    • Christine

Yes, a few people have enough gear to set up the routes, you just need to have the basics :)

      1 · July 15, 2013

If you are in Cherry Creek North/Capital Hill area, I can carpool with you, just drop me a note and we will figure it out.

  • Naty M.

would love to but will be out of town...

    July 15, 2013
