South St. Vrain, Hidden Valley, Hidden Wall

Some cracks, some bolts. Leads and topropes 5.9 to 5.11. Please bring gear and ropes if you have them. I have not been here before, and highly recommend that we hike in as a group as the approach may be convoluted and the crag hidden. Drive time from Denver is about 1.5 hours, so carpooling is recommended. Wear sturdy footwear for the approach. Medium-high adventure factor, but at least the poison ivy is dead and the snakes are sleeping.

Let's start hiking from the aforementioned 8.3mi pullout at 8:30am Saturday.

One good Denver carpool meeting place is the parking lot of the Red Rooster Cafe (5761 N. Washington St., just E of the I-25/58th Ave exit, SW corner of 58th Ave and Washington). Please suggest other meeting spots (with parking) if this is out of your way.

Let's plan on leaving from the Red Rooster at 7am, or be at the trailhead before 8:30am.

Change of plans after meeting up with everyone in the St. Vrain Canyon. We decided to climb "The Monkey Skull". This was a a great suggestion from JimC. Such a sweet climbing area. Fantastic day. Great climbing partners. Amazing weather for November. Need more days like this.

Let's discuss some alternate nearby destinations when we get to the trailhead. If you show up late, be aware that we may have moved back down-canyon around mile marker 26.6 or elsewhere -- we'll leave a note on a dashboard. Please contact me/us, or don't be late.

Ok, I take that back, I'd be coming from the south, so the Rooster is a bit out of the way. Is there somewhere alone 70 I could meet you, or should I just meet you guys at the trailhead?

The most direct route from Denver goes through Boulder via I-25 to I-36 -- are you sure the 58th Ave. spot (Red Rooster) is out of the way? Alternately, we need to pick up someone in Boulder at Peet's Coffee [masked]th St, essentially Canyon and 28th) at 7:30, so we could meet there.

Ah, ok. For some reason I was thinking we'd be taking 70. I can do the Rooster then & will be there at 7am. White Cavalier. Thanks!

I'll meet you guys at the Rooster & maybe carpool depending on when people think they'll be leaving. I need to be home by about 5:30pm, so I can drive by myself if needed, but at least I can maybe follow you guys there. I also don't have a rope....are there enough people bringing one?

More ropes would be helpful, but we should have enough to get by. For maximum entertainment what we're really lacking is a water-balloon slingshot.

I am going to be in Boulder so I will just meet you at the trail head parking. Dark grey Subaru forester.

This would be my first meet up. Would it be OK to bring my 13 year old son?

Welcome to the group Wade, and thanks for asking. It's up to you. The approach requires either rappelling in, or a scramble up terrain of unknown difficulty. It would be good to be capable of both options. The climbing is graded difficult (for me, at least), and I'd recommend taping hands since most climbs have crack sections. I'm not trying to scare you off, and I'll look forward to meeting you and your son on this outing or another.

Thanks Jim. We're both pretty green and we've only repelled once and that was a while ago. Maybe we'll wait for something a little more our speed.

Ok, i see the directions now too - missed it first time. I'd plan on going if there are some people headed up.

      sorry- just saw the post...

I would be interested. I live closer to St Vrain so could meet up near there if it seems like it will work out. I've never been there, (hidden valley) can you give some details on where its at?
