Saturday Intermediate level & above drop-in grass vball in Washington park

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MQv6ejdC6c

This video is a good example of how we play, except the person in the serving position ( back center rear) may not leave their feet to spike, although they can jump to block. ( no matter where on the court they are, as there is no '10 foot line' on the court )

This meetup is only for those players that are at the advanced  intermediate and above skill levels for playing outdoor 4 on 4 volleyball. 'Intermediate' means that you know 4 on 4 rules as played by Volleyball of the Rockies and can consistently serve, bump, set, and spike within the rules over 80% of the time. Their will probably be tens of nets out there, so you will need to RSVP to get more info on the location. You don't have to be tall or a expert player to attend this meetup. You don't need to bring a team. We just randomly make teams when we get out there.

The forecast is for over 71 degrees this Wednesday, so sounds good for volleyball.

I will increase the number of players that can attend if others volunteer to bring a net.

Go ahead and RSVP 'yes' if you think you might be interested in attending. If you change your mind you can always change your RSVP. Don't wait to RSVP until you see a bunch of people coming. That is how meetups get canceled. Everyone is waiting for others to RSVP and it ends up few do.

I will stay till dark if there are enough players that still want to play that late. We can then go out to dinner then if anyone is interested.

People that don't RSVP don't have the right to play if we are short of nets.

If anyone with a net wants to go out earlier, put that in the 'comments' so others can join you.

If anyone wants to bring a table, grill, food, drinks and such, that would be great.

You don't have to already know anyone or have a team. We just make teams randomly.

We don't play 5 on 5 or 6 on 6 number of people per side outdoors on the intermediate net.   We usually play 4 on 4 on each side or less. If someone brings a net and wants to dedicate it to doubles that would be great.

Put in the comments section of this meetup event if you will be bringing out a net so I can increase the number of players that can RSVP.

To be a intermediate or better player you must know and be able to play the Volleyball of the Rockies 4 on 4 rules that we use when playing outdoors grass or sand, and know the rules and procedures for playing 3 touch volleyball with the center setting volleyball. You must also be able to set, bump, and spike. You don't have to be an expert at any of these or be tall or fast,  but if you can't bump without 'carrying' the ball or don't know the rules that are standard throughout the world, then you are recreational level player as far as this meetup.

The most important characteristic of  intermediate and above level players is knowing  not to dink, lift, throw, or receive the serve with open hands. (outdoors 4s and less players rules doesn't  allow open hands receiving of the serve. ) Intermediate and above players also have the skill to accurately serve, bump, set and spike legally over 80% of the time. They also try to use all three touches of the ball to attain a 'spike' of the volleyball.

Most recreation players try to get the ball over the net in one or two touches and carrying and throwing the ball isn't called as much, nor is touching the net or receiving the ball illegally. WE ARE NOT PLAYING THIS RECREATIONAL LEVEL VOLLEYBALL AT THIS MEETUP.

Intermediate B/BB players know and obey the Island Volleyball of the Rockies rules when playing outdoors. Those rules are different in many ways than indoor 6 on 6 hard court rules and recreational rules. I will have meetups for recreational levels at another time.

Thanks for organizing, Dave. Was great to get out for the 1st time since last fall & shake off some rust from snowboarding season. Simply a stunning spring day at Wash!

Because of the predicted high winds for Sunday, I have moved the meetup to Saturday instead of Sunday, reflecting input from players. It will be at the usual spot just west of the maintenance buildings and south of the Washington park recreation Center.

    Have net, will travel

I am thinking Saturday would be a better day to play, as Sunday the wind is predicted at over 20 mph. Sunday is a little warmer though, but 65 on Saturday is probably warm enough with the sun suppose to be out. What is everyones thoughts? I will move the meetup to Saturday if I don't get the majority of people saying they want to play on Sunday instead.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
