Actually, the mailing list is intended for discussion. It just has not
been used all that much, but has been available for quite a while. The
forums are a left over of an old functionality and have been archived
and locked. At that time, the forums were rarely used by the group and
people preferred the mailing list option to it. As was said
previously, your notification options are configurable and you can
make them fit your personal tastes.

As long as it is a legitimate job posting for our area or a question
someone has, I do not mind. The point is to get involved with people
with similar interests and help each other out a bit. The meeting once
a month are not always optimal for all of these things and the
industry is in a state of flux right now.

If there is enough of an interest in having the forums re-opened, I
can certainly do so.
