Finding a Teacher

This Meetup is for those who are looking for a Teacher, and those who are looking for students.

How do you find a teacher? What do you look for in a teacher? What is it that teachers are looking for in a student, and why is it so hard to find what you're looking for?

These are questions I hear people ask all the time. We've touched on this topic several times, so I think it's time to make it the main topic. Bring your questions, and your observations, and who knows, you might just find exactly what you've been looking for.

Trying a second post. I am so sorry I missed this meeting. The wind and snow started very early my side of town and I did not want to drive home late in the predicted storm.

    • Greyhart

I was actually surprised at how many people showed up. Usually snow keeps people away. We ended up with just under 30 people. Hopefully by the next Meetup, it'll be warm enough to be out on the patio.

The snow prevented me from coming. I hope to be there next time

I want to thank everyone for being so receptive to a pagan perspective that wasn't Wiccan/witchcraft. Blessings of the Kindred go with you all.

Building community is a big reason I run this Meetup. We have only ourselves and each other to rely on, and having a group of good people to interact with and learn from, is an extremely important aspect of this broader spiritual Path.

Thank You, William, for coming to the meeting and speaking about ADF! Hopefully you will attend future meetings! Just from what you said, I wish to learn more about Druidism/ADF. Peace and Blessings back to you!

Friday night's meeting (seminar?) was very informative! I learned quite a bit. Thank the Goddess and God for Greyheart for organizing this group.

Thank you for coming, and sharing your Tradition with us. It's important that people new to the Craft get exposed to as many different flavors as possible.

Have we secured some indoor space, as it may be a little chilly for this Meetup to be held outdoors? The little "side room" perhaps?

    Hi!

I am very new to all of this, and have just been doing a lot of reading on my own. I would love to learn from others. I keep trying to make these Friday meetings, but I always seem to have a friend in town or some obligation. I have friends in town this week, but this topic is really interesting to me-- would it be okay if I just popped in for an hour?

Looking forward to meeting everyone at some point in the future!

Alexis, feel free to come and bring your friends. We shore up early and trend to stay late. You may find that you just don't wasn't to leave. However long you stay is fine.

Should be very interesting. We are all students and we are all teachers

    March 18, 2013

    • Greyhart

That's one of the reasons the Traditional 2nd Degree class is to teach those in the 1st degree class. You learn an awful lot from your students.

    • Rev. Wm. E. Ashton, A.

In the ADF, many people who work through the Dedicant's Program often volunteer for mentor, or other leadership positions soon after. A friend one told me, "nothing is ever truly yours unless you can give it away." We're all constantly oscillating between learning and sharing. It's a beautiful part of humanity.

    BLESSED OSTARA!

    1 · March 21, 2013

I thought I would share a quote for Ostara Spring Equinox:
And Spring arose on the garden fair, Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere; And each flower and herb on Earths dark breast rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.

Oh no :( Babysitting duties are most likely going to keep me from this meet. I am super disappointed

    March 17, 2013

    • Greyhart

It seems you weren't meant to attend this particular Meetup. Pay no attention to Dan, do what your Path tells you to do. That sometimes includes babysitting.

      March 18, 2013

    • Katey

Yeah, people in my house are going to be out of town and between my roomates there are 3 kids, and my co-babysitters are working that night. Duty calls! See you guys next time

You always walk your own Path. A teacher does the student one way. The student then adapts new thoughts and ideas to create their own unique.individual Path.

I have been in traditional education for 25 years. It has been my experience the best teachers have read, studied and lived. You can read everything but without the life experience to balance the knowledge, you really cannot truly understand what you have learned.

In reference yo PNO...is anybody car pooling from Aurora. Want to go but the parking sucks....

    March 12, 2013

  • Katey

I was intrigued last time when this topic came up, definitely looking forward to a session devoted to it. I feel it will be very helpful, as this path is so self motivated and doesn't have any sort of set "protocol" per se. Hopefully I can stay longer afterwards this time

    1 · March 11, 2013

    • Greyhart

It seemed a logical progression. We've got a lot of people showing up to the Meetup who are brand new, and looking for information. It's always been difficult to find the right teacher, even when everyone knew who they were.

      March 12, 2013

  • Greyhart

For those who have been asking about other events in the local community, Pagan Night Out (PNO) is tonight, and I will be there. Come say hi.
