Come To The Dark Side...We Have Cookies!

There are those who believe that Witchcraft is all white light and rainbows. There is also the Dark Side. The ability to cure can also be used to kill. For every positive action, there is a negative. At it's heart, Witchcraft is about polarity and balance.

Everyone talks about the "White" side of Witchcraft, but a Witch must also know and understand the "Black" side in order to walk the Path of balance. This is not about black magick, though that is a part of the Dark Side, it is about exploring, acknowledging, and embracing that side of yourself that you hide from everyone, including yourself.

Tonight we talk about your best ally, and your greatest enemy...yourself.

When last I was part of a group, many years ago, there was no networking, no internet actually. Meetings were held "out in the middle of nowhere forever". No books. No classes. The dark side was emphasized and Wicca was not. Much energy derived from rituals. It appears that today keeping quiet outside of the groups is not so necessary. Or maybe I haven't been involved enough lately to be privy to the magick and rituals held secretly. Much of what I learned came from a group that appeared to be a youth and young adult group with adult "chaperones" to the mountains frequently for "retreats". I have much to learn about today's practices

Rose youinsite is right on the mark & as is has been said, It was a shame you were not able to be with us in person to share just what you have said. & also, had you been with us you would have gained many other sides to that question of yours that would have beafitted you & all of us as well. You are correct in what you say & it would have fit right into what we were discussing. Hopfully next time you will get to join us. I enjoy thethings you have to input in to our topics.
    Blessings Samm
By the way, Hi Silence & Red Wolf, it was Grate to see you too. I promise to see more of you. :)

I can also say that I will be making a better effort at being there. I now have back up rides in place. Thank you Red Wolf & I'm not going to allow an other persons desission influance mine & stop me from doing what I want. So thank you to a number of you for helping me to see the darkness & the light. maybe, your notifications are set up wrong? I know I have issues with emails from this site.....hope that helps, since I hate missing on a good topic myself

    January 24, 2013

    • Greyhart

Nope. The Meetup was automatically announced this weekend. I went in and changed the topic on Sunday, I believe, and so I sent out an update email. I got both emails without problem, so it's not an issue with Meetup.

Does meetup send out the notice that gets sent to my cell phone? I have no clue. But I do know that when I was on I-25 just turning onto the Speer exit my phone let me know, Hay!!! tonight is the Witch's meetup at the Rooster at 7:00pm. I got a real good giggle out of that one. & yah I was about 10 minutes late :(

    I embrace, seek refuge
and am at peace with my dark side. It helps me survive the bright, harsh pain of the 'light".

Whenever folks start talking about their "Shadow" and how they've overcome the Dark Side, I just always sit back and watch. It's amazing how people tend to overestimate their psychological fortitude. I once asked my Craft mentor what, ideally, he would would like to see in a prospective Witch. His reply? "Five years of therapy."

Wow, you left me speechless, it took great courage to acknowledge your efforts to improve yourself and make that statement. I applaud you. I have met so many people that need help and hurt the people around them because for whatever reason they blame everyone else for their pr0blems, and do not seek help. They are the people that are sick and need help. It is sad our society looks down on the people that seek professional help and do not recognize the people that do not seek help, are ones that truly need it. However, it has been my own experience, people who are empathic; understand and feel the pain of others are often seen as being the “crazy” people. The majority of the “professionals” do not recognize true physic and empathic abilities. They want the people that have gifts to take tests created by the people that do not have or understand our gifts. Then we are defined as “crazy”, and doubt ourselves.

My dark side is where I go to rest and regenerate before going back to "the real world".

I like shadow work. Will try to make it to this.

This is one of the things that books just don't talk about, because it has such a negative connotation to the uninitiated. In order to attain full power over yourself and your Craft, you have to know who you are. In order to know who you are, you have to discover your whole self.

Thank you for bringing this topic to the for front. I know that on my way home & was siffting trough what had been said, I reach down into my own 'Pandora's box' & took a good look at a few things. Didn't quite like what I saw but on the other hand it helped me to see somethings in myself that I now wish to "Tweek" a bit. & I also did as you suggested & I embraced those things & excepted that 'Yes' this is me & if I'm not liking it, I do have the power to do a few things. Put it back in the box. Wrap my arms arundit & except that, that is who & what I am or... like I said, I can change that which I don't like.

I agree whole heartedly with what Silence wrote. So sorry you could not make it to meet up. It would have been nice to have your insight brought to us.

Sorry I missed this one. Why is Dark perceived as "bad"? The yin and yang. The night is not evil but a time of rest for some, activity for others. The sun would scorch the earth without the cool nights. Does that make the light bad? Our “Dark” side is our intangible side, the light the solid tangible side. Too many people see the light as the good and “real” world. Nothing appears in the “real” world until it is created in the mind or the “dark” side of our soul. What you create in the dark world manifests itself in the light, the “real world”. Nothing can come to the light before it is created in the “dark” mind of our soul. You may create or do good or bad in either realm. The physic gifts we have, has long been perceived as bad, mankind is not in balance with the dark and light.

I still hope to be there but am having transportation challenges. I'm taking the light rail to Parker this afternoon. Hoping to be able to get back and catch the bus in time for this. We need better public transportation on the Front Range, it's too complicated!

Happy Full Moon, ya'll! Here's a great article about how the unacknowledged "Shadow" affects the greater Pagan community. why are notifications of events with such short notice?

    January 24, 2013

    • Greyhart

I try to get them out about a week or so before the Meetup. After I've come up with a topic. If you look, you'll see that we meet every other Friday night. Being on a regular schedule, the actual Meetup doesn't need to be announced months in advance.

      January 24, 2013

  • Greyhart

Ok, since you two are signed up before the Meetup has been announced, what should we have as a topic?

Erm, sounds good to me! As a newbie to this group, I can honestly say... I don't know!

    • Greyhart

Let me rephrase that Laura. What would you like to learn, or talk about? We can certainly have a discussion on the dark side of yourself and the Craft. It's a topic well worth exploring. I just want to get an idea of what people are looking for.
