Natural History Museum Friday Evening fun & Pub afterwards

This should be a distraction from the normal routine - lets experience together one of London's most unique Friday nights out! Dinosaurs def included :)

Also we can listen to sounds from up-and-coming musicians, live in the Central Hall. http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/whats-on/after-hours/lates-master-card/open-mic-lates/index.html

MEETING UP

I think the best place to meet is near the entrance inside, between 7pm and 7.30pm. So as you enter into the museum immediatly to your right you will see a sign for the shop. There is an area just before the shop and I shall be around here.

*PLAN*
OK, with so many things to potentially do I thought the best way to arrange things is to keep things open in terms of how you wish to enjoy the evening.

1/If you have never been to the museum before and want to go on a mini-tour then Robert has kindly volunteered to show you some of the museums highlights. So maybe you will get to see the Dinosaur area (which includes a surprise at the end!) or the Mammals room where there is the famous life size model of a Blue Whale. Time permitting there is the Earth Hall that leads to an Earthquake simulator.

2/For those that have been to the NHM before you may wish to visit the more secretive areas of the museum that have eluded you in past visits and walk around at your own pace.

3/Or simply enjoy the entertainment being put on for the night by staying in the Central Hall and adjoining areas. There are lots of things to see, hear and do.

Either way we shall all meet back in the Central Hall by 10 (the museum closes 1030) then for those still with energy we shall head to a local pub near South Kensington tube.

Would love to have gone myself, but sadly (for me) i was working (so had not RSVPed yet) till later than expected yesterday and felt quite physically and emotionally drained. Thus i did not have enough time to get ready and travel there, and i was also not feeling at my best confidence wise. Would definitely love to attended a future trip if there are plans to go again. Hope you guys (and girls) had a great time.

Hello everyone, I'd really like to attend this event on Friday, it would be my first time. I would also like to join you all at the pub after but travelling home from south Ken is too scary.

Arh don't worry Lou-Ellen. You can come along to the pub event in a few weeks time and leave when you feel comfortable..

Very new to this; but I've been getting the tremors recently and I've ostracised myself again. Public forums irritate me, but I will say that I'm 25, 5"7, Latin; you'll see me furtively smoking over the balustrade of the museum entrance above the Cromwell Road forecourt. Look up from the street and I'll be staring at you, probably, a bearded face in a black beanie.

Welcome Bill - sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the moment. My events are welcoming and I hope you enjoy. Thanks for the description (above) though the part about you "staring" sounds a bit menacing ;)

Forgive me, as this may sound a silly question (and it may well be), but it has been quite a while (school days) since i have actually visited a museum (this one being the last), and i was wondering (as there is no mention in the description) if there is an entrance fee to visit museums nowadays, as it used to be ?. Would really love to go, (as it's been a while, as mentioned) even just to see how much it has changed and what's new since i was last there.

    November 18, 2013

    • Martin

That is a reasonable question Terry - my fault for assuming people would know. Yes it is 100% free although the special exhibitions are not. Check the link Ive included in the event text for more details on that. Cheers

    • Terry

Thanks Martin, i completely missed that link while browsing over the description looking for some indication of entrance fee. I'll definitely take a look, Thanks again.
