The Darley Park Concert

An evening of classical music and fireworks in the stunning setting of Darley Park.

Come along and be part of the 30,000 strong crowd at the UK’s biggest free outdoor classical concert, in the stunning natural amphitheatre that is Darley Park. An evening of classic music and fireworks.

With Sinfonia Viva

The theme of this year's concert is time. Programme here:

http://www.derbylive.co.uk/whats-on/the-darley-park-concert1

Tickets - £0  - Free Entry!

The concert starts at 6pm but we will meet up at 5pm at The Broadway Pub beforehand, so that we can all walk down on to the Park together. The Broadway is on Duffield Road, Derby, DE22 1JB

As you may have seen from the comments below, Katy will be parking in town and walking up to Darley Abbey. If anyone can't get to The Broadway, she has kindly agreed to meet up with you in town, so that you can walk up together. The meeting time for this will be 4pm. I will e-mail full details in the final arrangements. We will then convene at The Broadway for 5pm, so that we can go to the Park as one group. Otherwise, trying to find people in a crowd of 30,000 will be like looking for a needle in a haystack!

I will e-mail out a contact 'phone number but 'phone reception in the park is patchy, so I would advise you to come to the Broadway at 5pm, otherwise I can't guarantee that we will be able to find you in the Park.

The concert starts at 6pm with entertainment from "The Big Sing" and then the concert starts proper at 7pm. Bring something to eat and drink and we'll have a "picnic" whilst the warm up act is on. There are too many people signed up, to try and co-ordinate everyone bringing different foods, so just bring along what you want to eat and drink.

I would suggest that you bring something suitable to sit on and of course appropriate clothing for the weather.  Anyone that can bring a folding table, that might be useful, although please bear in mind we are meeting in a pub, if you do bring along all your camping equipment :-)

Hopefully it will be a warm sunny evening!

Was it a good night guys? Sorry I couldn't make it. I was really looking forward to it. I'm sorry to say Three Peaks training takes precedence over everything at the moment because it is in less than 3 weeks time.

Once again thanks for organising Steve, the fireworks made a lovely finally to the event, and amazingly no traffic jams to leave or anything.

Is it too late to say yes, I am free this sunday

    1 · August 30, 2013

    • Steve

Hi. It's only ever too late afterwards :-) See you Sunday.

      August 30, 2013

  • Steve

The meeting point in town is really for anyone who can't get to The Broadway. It's a mile or so walk then up to Darley Abbey. If at all possible, it would be better if you could get yourself to The Broadway - with 55 people signed up, it's going to be easier if we only have one main meeting point. :-)

    August 30, 2013

  • Sarah F.

I'm unsure if i can make it but if i can and weather is nice I may come as it's a nice event and it'd be nice to meet some of you.

    August 29, 2013

    • Steve

Hi Sarah. Thanks fine - just change your RSVP accordingly.

      August 30, 2013

  • Karen D.

Really appreciate it if someone is prepared to rendezvous with me at some point on my journey to Derby - I'll be travelling from East Leake or Sutton Bonnington to Derby by car. I don't know Derby at all for parking and there will be so many cars parked in the surrounding streets, don't fancy getting lost in all that traffic!

    August 28, 2013

    • Sarah F.

It sounds like parking in town might be easier in some ways - and meeting up with Katie. It depends how people are getting back afterwards though

      August 29, 2013

    • Sarah F.

2 years back staying til the end meant huge waits for cabs & queues to walk off the park etc - so getting back to town could take a while... I think the Assembly Rooms car park is cheap, (that's perhaps especially after 6pm though).

      August 29, 2013

  • Paul

    will i need a coat?

    August 29, 2013

We went 2 years ago for the 1st time. It stayed nice but did cool down during the evening (so I was glad I'd taken layers to add as time went on). Going early was great as

    August 28, 2013

  • Rich

I'm really looking forward to this now! I've never been to the Darley Park Concert with so many people before. I've been before and I was told to shut up when I blatantly wasn't the only person talking. I'll have to go into town and out again if we meet anywhere other than The Broadway.

A few friends are coming round so making our own way there, will hopefully see you there :-)

    August 27, 2013

  • Steve

If you are coming to this event, please make sure that you have read all of the event description above, so that you are aware of meeting times, what you need to bring with you and so on. I will be sending an e-mail out with the final details and a contact number on Saturday. If you haven't received this by Saturday evening, please send me an e-mail and I will send you a copy. Whilst you are very welcome to come later and try and find us on the Park, I would advise that you try and get to the Broadway for 5pm, as trying to find us on the park may prove challenging :-)

    August 26, 2013

    • Steve

I think we're sorted but just in case there was a last minute change of plan I didn't want to put up a venue early and then have to change it. It will be a pub at the cathedral end of town (as that's closest to Darley Park). Full details will be in the e-mail on Saturday :-)

      August 26, 2013

    • Steve

Having said that, it is hoped that most people will make their way to The Broadway. The logistics of gathering 50+ people together before setting off will prove a challenge and we don't really want to have to do that twice :-)

      August 26, 2013

I am planning on parking on a side road in town and walking in (I don't intend to pay for parking!). Once I decide where I will be parking I can let you know so you won't need to walk back to your car on your own if you like?

      1 · June 15, 2013

    • Margaret

Thanks Katy ... I will watch this space!

      June 25, 2013

  • Steve

The following are the official car parks for Darley Park:

•Darley Park Drive car park: Sat Nav. DE22 1EN (off Duffield Road A6 opposite the Broadway Pub)
•Darley Street car park: Sat Nav. DE22 1DX (opposite the Abbey Pub)
•City Road car park: Sat Nav. DE1 3RP (next to Parkers Piece)
•Old Chester Road car park: Sat Nav. DE1 3SA (next to Darley Fields)

However, with 30,000 people attending, I imagine they are likely to get full very early on and difficult to get out of at the end of the night. Katy's suggestion of parking in town and walking to the park is probably the best one.

It is possible to park in the town centre on a Sunday after 4pm for free.

Nearer the time, we will arrange a meeting point beforehand - possibly in a nearby pub.
