Nottingham Castle and Caves

Nottingham Castle - a magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls.

Standing high on Castle Rock overlooking the city, Nottingham Castle is visited by over 270,000 visitors each year!

The Castle is situated in six acres of beautiful Victorian inspired gardens

Admission: Adults - £5.50

Nottingham Castle Caves

Beneath Nottingham Castle a labyrinth of manmade caves and tunnels continue to tell the turbulent story of this historic site. Enjoy a memorable tour discovering the secret passageways, King David's legendary dungeon, the Duke of Newcastle's Wine Cellar and Mortimer's Hole.

With some of the caves dating back to medieval times, the tour is strenuous with over 300 steep steps. However, for those who wish to descend through hundreds of years the tour is a must.

£3.00 per person

Please note: places on cave tours are allocated on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability and weather conditions. No advance bookings are taken. Tickets go on sale 30 minutes before the tour is due to leave. Tours 1pm, 2pm and 3pm (subject to availability)

The cave tour is optional. If you don't wish to go on the tour, you can stay in the castle grounds whilst others go on the tour.

Afterwards, weather permitting we may wander down to Old Market Square to experience Nottingham Riviera.

The Old Market Square will once again be transformed into a bustling seaside resort. The city's famous 'beach' will include comfy deck chairs, a host of free events, stalls selling buckets and spades and daily activities for everyone to enjoy, including touch rugby and beach volleyball.

For those travelling from Derby, we will meet at Derby Bus Station and catch the 11.00am Red Arrow to Nottingham.

We will be able to get Group ZigZag tickets - each one allows up to 5 people to travel there and back for £9.

For anyone wishing to go direct to Nottingham, we'll meet at the Castle by the Robin Hood statue at Midday.

Hi Steve, quick question, what time will we be catching the bus back?

    August 2, 2013

    • Steve

I've honestly no idea ... Personally I think it's better just to go with the flow when we're there, rather than trying to set a rigid timetable for the day, that we've then got to stick to. (If it's throwing it down with rain, you might want to come back at 3pm!) If there are others in the group that need to be back by a set time, then maybe you can get a ticket together .... but I really don't want to be setting a return time, before we've even set off.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
