Tour of Thornton's Chocolate Factory

Tour of Thornton's Chocolate Factory

Update[masked] - RSVPs now closed - final numbers have been given to Thorntons.

Here's your Golden Ticket!  This is your chance to tour the Thornton's Chocolate factory at Somercotes!

During the tour, you’ll visit both our manufacturing plant where we make our delicious chocolates and the packaging plant.  Depending on what is scheduled for the day of your tour you might see toffees, Easter Eggs, hard boiled sweets, nougat and any of our continental and classics chocolates being made.  There is an opportunity to try some of our chocolates and sweets at the “Tasting Station”, and visitors are able to visit the Factory Shop at the end of their tour.

The tour takes you right into the factory and lasts for around 2½ hours; you should expect to be on your feet for most of this time.  There are over 500 stairs on the tour, including up to 4 flights of stairs at any one time and we are a very large site.  At present, in
order to ensure all our visitors are safe and have an enjoyable time with us, we are unable to admit anyone who requires a walking aid of any description (including sticks and frames).

Unfortunately, tours are only available during the daytime, so if you are free on a Thursday afternoon or you feel like booking half a day off work, then this is ideal.

The tour costs - £5 per person and I will need you to give me this as soon as possible in order that I can secure your place, as it is only provisionally booked at the moment. Please note that this is non-refundable.  SEE UPDATE BELOW!

There are a number of specific hygiene regulations that must be adhered to when visiting a factory producing food. When you have signed up please e-mail me via my profile - click on the envelope icon (without hiding your own e-mail address) and I will send you the documents that you need.

Meet at 1.30pm at the factory - full details will be e-mailed out nearer the time to those attending.

Update[masked]: I can't believe that I am actually writing this ....but we are limited to 30 people on this tour.  Due to the fact that I will have to pay for whatever places I book, your place will only be confirmed when I have received your moneyOn this occasion, the order in which you sign up is not relevant, but the order in which you give me your money is :-)  The first 30 to pay me will secure their place on the list and anyone else will then be moved onto a waiting list.  You have until the end of this year (31 December 2013) to pay me your money but it is first come, first served and I cannot therefore guarantee that all the places will not have been allocated before then.

Update[masked] - 15th January is the absolute last date that you will be able to give me your money for this visit. After that date, I will be closing the RSVPs.  If you still wish to come but have not yet given me your £5, you have two opportunities - I will be at the Exeter pub on Friday (10 Jan) and at The Bless next Wednesday (15 Jan).  Last chance - cash only! At the time of writing this, there are 14 available places.

Just to remind everyone one that you will NOT be able to go on the tour if you haven't read the hygiene regulations beforehand AND completed the visitor form. I will be collecting the completed forms from you as you arrive, on the day. If you still need a copy of the documents please send me an e-mail.
